1. Heme A synthase from Bacillus subtilis and Aeropyrum pernix
Sammanfattning : Respiration in animals, plants and many bacteria is dependent on heme A, which functions as a prosthetic group in a-type cytochromes (terminal energy-transducing oxidases in the electron transport chain that reduce molecular oxygen to water). Heme A synthase catalyses a chemically very demanding reaction, the conversion of one specific methyl side-group of heme O to a formyl group of heme A. LÄS MER
2. Biomimetic Iron Complexes involved in Oxygenation and Chlorination : A Theoretical Study
Sammanfattning : Biomimetic chemistry is directed towards the simulation of enzymatic reactivity with synthetic analogues. In this thesis a quantum chemical method has been employed to study the mechanism of highly reactive iron-oxo complexes involved in oxygenation and chlorination of organic substrates. LÄS MER
3. Biomimetic Transition Metal Catalysts : Insights from Theoretical Modeling
Sammanfattning : The scientific interest in the chemistry of synthetic transition metal complexes is motivated by at least two arguments:1.These can be regarded as models of biological transition metal complexes, e.g. metalloenzymes, whose functions can be difficult to reveal in detail due to their complexity. 4. Reaction Mechanisms of Metalloenzymes and Synthetic Model Complexes Activating Dioxygen : A Computational study
Sammanfattning : Quantum chemistry has nowadays become a powerful and efficient tool that can be successfully used for studies of biosystems. It is therefore possibleto model the enzyme active-site and the reactions undergoing into it, as well as obtaining quite accurate energetic profiles. LÄS MER
5. A1M: a heme and radical binding protein. A study on structure, function and mechanisms
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes functional and structural studies of the human protein α1-microglobulin (A1M), an evolutionarily well-conserved 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein mainly synthesized in the liver. A1M belongs to the lipocalin protein family. Lipocalins share a very similar structur, an 8-stranded β-barrel forming a hydrophobic pocket. LÄS MER
