1. Helminths and immunity against tuberculosis
Sammanfattning : The efficacy of Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG) is low and incidence of tuberculosis (TB) is high in those areas where helminths are endemic. Protection against tuberculosis requires strong cell mediated immunity while chronic helminth infections induce responses characterized by dominant Th2 responses as well as up-regulated regulatory T cell activity. 2. Pharmacovigilance of preventive chemotherapy for the control of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths in Ethiopia
Sammanfattning : The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends preventive chemotherapy (PC) as a core public health intervention for the control and elimination of schistosomiasis and soil transmitted helminths (STHs) in endemic countries. Despite being amenable to available treatments and ongoing PC, schistosomiasis and STHs remain causes of significant morbidity and associated complications in endemic areas. LÄS MER
3. Pharmacovigilance of mass drug administration for the control of schistosomiasis and soil transmitted helminths in Rwanda
Sammanfattning : Preventive chemotherapy (PC) is a WHO recommended core interventional measure or a strategy to prevent, control and eliminate STH and schistosomiasis as public health burden by 2030. Though preventable and treatable, they are still endemic in Rwanda and continue to cause significant mortality and morbidity. LÄS MER
4. Immunological insights into equine responses against Strongylus vulgaris : Ex vivo studies using equine intestinal organoids and blood mononuclear cells
Sammanfattning : Anthelminthic drugs have controlled parasitic infections in veterinary species for decades, but today this use is questioned due to concerns about antimicrobial resistance. For most microorganisms, a feasible alternative is vaccination but for parasites, commercial vaccines are scarce. LÄS MER
5. On the cytotoxic and proinflammatory properties of eosinophils
Sammanfattning : Eosinophils are multi-functional leukocytes involved in the pathophysiology of inflammatory diseases such as asthma and inflammatory bowel disease. Participation in some neoplastic diseases and in the host defense against helminths has also been postulated. They are considered both good and bad, protecting or harming the host. LÄS MER
