  1. 1. Processes in Optical Diesel Engines - Emissions Formation and Heat Release

    Författare :Ulf Aronsson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel Engines; Optical Engines; Heat Release; Combustion; Emissions Formation; Mechanical Deformation;

    Sammanfattning : This project deals with questions related to generic diesel combustion research and optically accessible engines are used to study the combustion process. Images of the combustion are analyzed together with in-cylinder pressure and exhaust gas emission measurements. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fundamental studies of non-premixed combustion in turbulent wall jets using direct numerical simulation

    Författare :Zeinab Pouransari; V. Arne Johansson; Christer Fureby; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbulence; non-premixed combustion; global reaction; direct numerical simulation; wall-jet; heat release; mixing scales; heat transfer; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with the fundamental aspects of turbulent mixingand non-premixed combustion in wall-jet flows. Direct numerical simulations(DNS) of compressible turbulent flows are performed in a wall-jet configura-tion, which has a close resemblance to many industrial combustion applica-tions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fire behaviour of selected polymeric materials : Numerical modelling and validation using microscale and bench scale test methods

    Författare :Abhishek Bhargava; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DAEM; pyrolysis modelling; Polymer flammability; mass loss rate; Heat release rate HRR ;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to predict fire behaviour of materials is of key interest to building materials industry. Themain reason for it is expensive fire testing and certification costs borne by the manufacturers to bring a finished product to market. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites

    Författare :Roland H. Krämer; Ulf W. Gedde; Norman C. Billingham; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Melt; flow; dripping; collapse; combustion; pool fire; feed‐back; gasification; heat release; flammability; nanocomposites; molar mass; intumescence; polyurethane; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion.This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization. 5. 5. On the Characteristics of Fires in Tunnels

    Författare :Anders Lönnermark; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; experiments; tunnel fire; heat release rate; temperature; fire spread; ventilation; backlayering; pulsations; thermoacoustic instability; equivalence ratio; emissions; gas concentrations; toxicity; Technological sciences; Teknik; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik; Railway transport technology; Järnvägstransportteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Important phenomena related to tunnel fires are presented including both experimental and theoretical work. The main focus is on the large-scale fire tests performed in 2003, in the Runehamar tunnel in Norway. LÄS MER
