  1. 6. Echocardiographic measurements of the heart : with focus on the right ventricle

    Författare :Karin Loiske; Kent Emilsson; Allan Sirsjö; Jan Engvall; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Echocardiography; heart; right ventricle; right ventricular outflow tract 1; isovolumetric relaxation time; maximal early diastolic relaxation velocity; takotsubo cardiomyopathy; long-axis function; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical physiology; Klinisk fysiologi; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Echocardiography is a well established technique when evaluating the size and function of the heart. One of the most common ways to measure the size of the right ventricle (RV) is to measure the RV outflow tract 1(RVOT1). Several ways to measure RVOT1 are described in the literature. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Living with heart failure : effects of an educational programme on patients and family members

    Författare :Caroline Löfvenmark; Anne-Cathrine Mattiasson; Magnus Edner; Ewa Billing; Inger Ekman; Sophiahemmet Högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic heart failure; Social support; Educational programme; Family members; chronic heart failure;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a syndrome with various underlying causes and when an individual is diagnosed with CHF it affects daily life of both him/her and family members. An educational programme may have the capability to increase the knowledge and understanding of family members and improve their possibility to support the patient with CHF. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Risk factors for incident heart failure and atrial fibrillation in an elderly population : The role of cardiac conduction and heart rate variability

    Författare :Bozena Ostrowska; Carina Blomström Lundqvist; Lars Lind; Mikael Dellborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; incident heart failure; incident atrial fibrillation; prediction of heart failure; short P-wave duration; heart rate variability.; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are epidemic diseases, frequently coexisting, sharing risk factors and conferring poor prognosis. Identification of individuals at high risk of HF and AF may enable early treatment and improve the prognosis. Reliable prediction models for daily clinical practice are lacking. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Ischemic heart disease in Kiruna : risk factors and sequelae

    Författare :Torbjörn Messner; Kurt Svärdsudd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ischemic heart disease; risk factors; alcohol; acetylsalicylic acid; lipids; fatty acids; diet; psychosocial risk factors; migration; smoking; mortality; diabetes mellitus; family history; heart failure;

    Sammanfattning : Kiruna, a Swedish community situated 300 km north of the Arctic Circle, has a very high mortality in ischemic heart disease (IHD). Acase-control study was undertaken to find out if the risk factors for IHD or their impact differed from those in other populations. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Epidemiology of heart failure and feasibility of home care in patients with worsening chronic heart failure

    Författare :Masoud Shafazand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chronic heart failure; mortality; deterioration; hospitalisation; gender; home care; quality-adjusted life years; emergency care; health care costs; ischaemic; non-ischaemic; health-related quality of life; conventional care; acute myocardial infarction; coronary heart disease; heart failure;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: To investigate gender-specific trends in long-term mortality in patients hospitalised for ischaemic and non-ischaemic heart failure (HF) and explore temporal trends in the risk of HF complicating acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Another aim is to characterise patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) that seek an emergency department (ED) because of their deteriorating condition and evaluate the feasibility of home care (HC) in comparison with conventional care (CC) in patients with worsening CHF.
