12. Cardiac arrhythmias and heart rate variability in familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy : A clinical study before and after liver transplantation
Sammanfattning : Familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy (FAP), found in the northernmost counties in Sweden, is a rare, lethal and inherited amyloidosis. The disease is caused by mutated transthyretin (TTR). The mutation is characterized by an exchange of valine for methionine at position 30 (ATTRVal30Met). LÄS MER
13. The rolling resistances of roller skis and their effects on human performance during treadmill roller skiing
Sammanfattning : Modern ski-treadmills allow cross-country skiers, biathletes and ski-orienteers to test their physical performance in a laboratory environment using classical and freestyle techniques on roller skis. For elite athletes the differences in performance between test occasions are quite small, thus emphasising the importance of knowing the roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficient, µR, in order to allow correct comparisons between the results, as well as providing the opportunity to study work economy between different athletes, test occasions and core techniques. 14. On the Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Glucose Homeostasis
Sammanfattning : Obesity has grown to epidemic proportions, and in lack of efficient life-style and medical treatments, the bariatric surgeries are performed in rising numbers. The most common surgery is the Gastric Bypass (GBP) surgery, with the Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (DS) as an option for the most extreme cases with a BMI>50 kg/m2. LÄS MER
15. Autonomic cardiac control in patients with epilepsy : spectral analysis of heart rate variability
Sammanfattning : The heart is affected by the central nervous system via sympathetic and para-sympathetic efferents from autonomic centres in the brain stem. By assessing the beat to beat variation of the RR-intervals of the heart, i.e. the heart rate variability (HRV) it is possible to separately analyse sympathetic and parasympathetic effects on the heart.
