    Sammanfattning : The ability of eukaryotic cells to change their shape and to migrate directionally is highly dependent on active volume regulation in cells building up tissues as well as in individual cells. Transmembrane fluxes of water via specialized water channels, called aquaporins (AQPs), facilitate the changes of volume and shape, which additionally require a complex interplay between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton. 2. 2. Cell and organoid models to develop new antivirals and diagnostic methods for emerging viruses

    Författare :Aleksandra Pettke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The ongoing global pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) is only the latest reminder of the urgent need for new antiviral strategies and diagnostic tools to improve preparedness for emergence of new pathogenic RNA-viruses. A key obstacle for the development of antivirals and diagnostic tools has been the lack of good models to study RNA viruses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Advancing antiviral strategies against emerging RNA viruses by phenotypic drug discovery

    Författare :Marianna Tampere; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pathogenic RNA viruses can emerge from unexpected sources at unexpected times and cause severe disease in humans, as exemplified by the ongoing coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and Ebola virus (EBOV), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) outbreaks from the past decade. Despite the increasing impact of emerging viruses to health and economy worldwide, our preparedness to stand against these diseases is hampered by the lack of approved and effective antiviral therapies.
