16. Prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, with emphasis on 11q13 rearrangements and cyclin D1 overexpression
Sammanfattning : At present, clinical outcome or response to therapy can not be fully predicted in individual cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). The overall aim of the present studies was to investigate potential prognostic factors, more closely related to the malignant progression of a tumor than the established markers, such as the TNM-classification system. 17. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations
Sammanfattning : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 18. Acute Otitis Media. Aspects of diagnosis and prophylaxis
Sammanfattning : Acute otitis media (AOM) is one of the most common childhood diseases and the most common causes of antibiotic treatment in small children. Most children will experience one or two episodes of AOM during preschool age but some will suffer from repeated attacks, they will become otitis-prone. LÄS MER
19. Middle Ear Pressure; A New Method for Continuous Direct Measurements
Sammanfattning : Disturbances in the pressure homeostasis of the middle ear (ME) system cause a pressure gradient across the tympanic membrane lessen the effectiveness of sound transmission and may be associated to development of chronic ME disease. An equipment for continuous direct pressure measurements was developed and was found to be accurate, base-line stabile and portable. LÄS MER
20. Ventilation of the Paranasal Sinuses. A study using the 133-Xenon Washout Technique
Sammanfattning : A noninvasive 133-xenon washout technique was used to evaluate the ventilation of the paranasal sinuses in healthy subjects and in patients with sinus disease. A mixture of air and 133-xenon is insufflated into the nasal cavities and passage into the sinuses is facilitated by a pressure increase created by letting the subjects inflate a balloon. LÄS MER
