1. Chemical exposures, biological monitoring and cancer risks in Swedish aluminium foundries and remelting plants
Sammanfattning : In aluminium foundries and remelting plants, a wide range of chemical agents are formed and emitted, including some highly toxic organochlorine compounds. This thesis explores emissions and exposures, as well as worker risk of porphyria and cancer. LÄS MER
2. Quartz in Swedish iron foundries : exposure and cancer risk
Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess the exposure to quartz in Swedish iron foundries and to determine the cancer morbidity for Swedish foundry workers. A cohort of 3,045 foundry workers and a final measurement database of 2,333 number of samples was established. LÄS MER
3. Resin acids in commercial products and the work environment of Swedish wood pellets production : Analytical methodology, occurrence and exposure
Sammanfattning : The aims of the work this thesis is based upon were to develop convenient analytical procedures for determining resin acids in biological and environmental matrices, and apply them to enhance understanding of the occurrence, exposure to and uptake by exposed individuals of resin acids. Particular focus has been on the workplace environment of the Swedish wood pellets industry. LÄS MER
4. Cobalt in the hard metal production industry : exposure via inhalation and skin and the inflammatory response in human keratinocytes
Sammanfattning : Cobalt is a strong sensitizer and can cause contact allergy upon both direct contact or from airborne exposure on the skin. In the skin, keratinocytes are the first cells to come in contact with the metal and will react and respond to the danger by triggering an alarm system resulting in an inflammatory response in the skin. 5. Isocyanates, Amines and Alkanolamines : Sampling, Chromatography and Detection
Sammanfattning : Isocyanates, aromatic-, aliphatic- and alkanolamines are commonly used in the industry today. Millions of workers in Europe are exposed. The most frequent health symptoms are respiratory and dermal disorder. Due to the health risk most of the compounds in this thesis are regulated by authorities and have occupational exposure limits (OELs). LÄS MER
