  1. 1. Improving cyanobacteria productivity: From theory to assay

    Författare :Kiyan Shabestary; Elton P. Hudson; Daniel Ducat; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metabolic engineering; growth-coupling; growth-arrest; cyanobacteria; CRISPRi; CRISPRi library; flux balance analysis; genome-scale model; butanol; lactate; isoprene; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Bio-based production of biochemicals and biofuels holds great promises for the transition towards a more sustainable society. With increasing levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, cyanobacteria stand apart as natural catalysts directly converting CO2 and light to product. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Role of Stat1 in Retinoic Acid-induced Myelomonocytic Differentiation of Human Leukemia Cells

    Författare :Anna Dimberg; Ivo Touw; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Stat1; ATRA; U-937; myeloid; differentiation; cell cycle; growth arrest; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), a biologically active metabolite of vitamin A, is a powerful inducer of terminal differentiation and growth arrest of several myeloid cell lines in vitro. Although the efficacy of ATRA as an anti-cancer drug has been demonstrated by the successful treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), knowledge concerning the molecular mechanisms directing ATRA-induced differentiation and cell cycle arrest of myeloid cells is lacking. 3. 3. Diversification of TGF-β Signaling in Homeostasis and Disease

    Författare :Michael Vanlandewijck; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Steven Dooley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-β; signaling; SIK; EMT; polarity; Notch; ALK5; p21; growth arrest; Smurf; Smad7; receptor; SNF1LK; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : With the dawn of metazoans, the ability of cells to communicate with each other became of paramount importance in maintaining tissue homeostasis. The transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) signaling pathway, which plays important roles during embryogenesis and in the adult organism, signals via a heterodimeric receptor complex consisting of two type II and two type I receptors. 4. 4. Cellular and molecular responses of periodontal connective tissue cells to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans cytolethal distending toxin

    Författare :Georgios N. Belibasakis; Sotirios Kalfas; Ulf H. Lerner; Anders Johansson; Veli-Jukka Uitto; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans; cytolethal distending toxin; periodontal connective tissue cells; localized aggressive periodontitis; growth arrest; bone resorption; receptor activator of NF-κB ligand; osteoprotegerin; pro-inflammatory cytokines; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is present in elevated proportions and numbers in dental bacterial biofilms of patients with localized aggressive periodontitis. This variant of periodontal disease, occurring in adolescents and young adults, is characterized by rapid and severe destruction of the connective tissues and bone supporting the teeth, eventually culminating in tooth loss. 5. 5. Aspects of cardiac arrest in Sweden - studies based on the Swedish Registry for CPR

    Författare :Fredrik Hessulf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac arrest; survival; resuscitation; comorbidity; prediction;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Since the introduction of modern cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by Peter Safar in the late 1950s, a tremendous amount of work and scientific discovery has expanded our knowledge of cardiac arrest (CA), made resuscitation a core skill of health care providers and improved survival substantially. Despite the many advances, the core elements of resuscitation have remained largely intact: immediate recognition and initiation of CPR and swift defibrillation. LÄS MER
