    Sammanfattning : The foraging ability of an organism is essential since it affects various traits, e.g. growth, reproduction effort, social status and, ultimately, fitness. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Optimal strategies and information in foraging theory

    Författare :Emma Sernland; Högskolan i Skövde; []

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I present both theoretical and empirical work where we have studied how humans and animals use information in situations where they need to continually update their information on the density of a resource. We have found that the amount of information, and the way the information is presented, are important factors for how well decisions are adapted to current circumstances. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of Habitat Quality on Behavioural Decisions and Population Dynamics in the Siberian Jay

    Författare :Magdalena Nystrand; Jan Ekman; Erik Matthysen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; Perisoreus infaustus; relatedness; delayed dispersal; predation risk; foraging; trade-off; demography; source-sink dynamics; forest structure; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The dynamics of natural populations may be influenced by a variety of factors, ranging from feeding interference and territoriality to the risk of predation and climatic effects. The relative influence of these factors may be contingent upon the quality of the habitat in which individuals reside. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nest-site attendance and foraging ecology of the Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) on the Faroe Islands. Is the Northern Fulmar a useful indicator of ecosystem productivity and pollution?

    Författare :Johannis Danielsen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nest-site attendance; foraging ecology; indicator species; Fulmar; Fulmarus glacialis; nocturnal activity; ecosystem productivity; pollution; mesopelagic fish;

    Sammanfattning : The Northern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis) is one of the most abundant seabirds in the Northern Hemisphere and the most abundant seabird on the Faroe Islands. Except from a few sporadic observations up until the 1950´s no study has focused on this species on the Faroe Islands. LÄS MER
