  1. 11. Groundwater vulnerability assessment using process-based models

    Författare :Riitta Lindström; Roger Thunvik; Pertti Vakkilainen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Database; Groundwater vulnerability; Hydrogeological environment; Process-based models; Penetration depth; Turnover time; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on groundwater vulnerability assessment by process-based simulation models and data acquisition for these assessments. A modelling system for intrinsic groundwater vulnerability assessment in water supply areas was developed, consisting of flow- and transport models for the unsaturated zone and the groundwater zone, coupled to a geographical informa-tion system. 2. 12. Remote Sensing and Gis for Groundwater Assessment in Hard Rock Areas. Applications to Water Well Siting in Ghana and Botswana

    Författare :Per Sander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; probabilistic approach; GIS; remote sensing; Ghana; hard rock; Botswana; groundwater assessment; lineaments;

    Sammanfattning : Different types of remote sensing data have been evaluated in this thesis with respect to their potential use in groundwater assessment in hard rock areas. The primary objectives of the study have been (1) to evaluate the interpretation of groundwater indicators from high resolution satellite images and aerial photography and (2) to investigate how remote sensing interpretations subsequently can be integrated with other pertinent data, as a decision support in water well siting under difficult hydrogeological conditions. 3. 13. Advancing the Implementation of Protective Measures for Drinking Water Sources in Sweden

    Författare :Nadine Gärtner; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water protection; mitigation measures; spatial planning; groundwater; surface water; drinking water; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : The world’s drinking water sources are under growing pressure due to human activities, including infrastructure projects, agriculture, climate change, and the ever-increasing need for freshwater. Although there is a strong call to protect our source waters instead of increasing treatment efficiency at the drinking water treatment plant, the extent of protection measures is often hotly debated. 4. 14. Hydrogeologic Studies on the Regional Scale: Risk Assessment and Decision Analysis

    Författare :David Wladis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; well data; decision analysis; lineaments; remote sensing; conceptual model; risk; groundwater; Europe; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Regional hydrogeologic studies are important components of environmental policy-making and as a basis of large construction projects. The structure of hydrogeologic studies on the regional scale is often complex, with a large number of steps and considerations. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Road disasters? Modeling and assessment of Swedish roads within crucial climate conditions

    Författare :Alireza Nickman; Bo Olofsson; Per-Erik Jansson; Nils-Otto Kitterød; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road; Flood; Moisture; Temperature; Groundwater; GIS; Uncertainity; Sweden; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : An efficient maintenance of roads to ensure high accessibility and durability of the transport capacity requires an understanding of how the hydrological response depends on both the road and the landscape characteristics. New methods and data were used to identify and explain interaction between roads and surrounding environment and their influence on hydrologic responses both in watershed scale and road-section scale.
