1. Risk Assessment of Groundwater Drawdown in Subsidence Sensitive Areas
Sammanfattning : Groundwater leakage into sub-surface constructions can result in drawdown, subsidence in compressible materials, and costly damage to buildings and installations. When planning for sub-surface constructions where there is a risk for land subsidence due to groundwater drawdown, the need for safety measures must be carefully evaluated and managed. LÄS MER
2. Remote Sensing and GIS : Applications for Groundwater Potential Assessment in Eritrea
Sammanfattning : An integrated approach with remote sensing, GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) and more traditional fieldworktechniques was adopted to assess the groundwater potential inthe central highlands of Eritrea. Digitally enhanced colorcomposites and panchromatic images of Landsat TM and Spot wereinterpreted to produce thematic maps such as lithology andlineaments. LÄS MER
3. Groundwater impact assessment and protection
Sammanfattning : In the recent decades, therehave been frequent conflicts between groundwater waterresources and environmentally hazardous activities. Newmethodologies for aiding decision-making in groundwater impactassessment and protection areneeded and in which issues ofincreased awareness, better understanding of the groundwaterresources processes, and validation of predictive mathematicalmodels are addressed. 4. Risk Estimation of Groundwater Drawdown in Subsidence Sensitive Areas
Sammanfattning : Groundwater drawdown induced ground subsidence is a severe problem in many regions around the world. Leakage of groundwater into a sub-surface construction, resulting in drawdown and subsequent subsidence, can lead to immense damage costs on buildings and installations in urban areas. LÄS MER
5. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location
Sammanfattning : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam.
