  1. 1. Risk Assessment of Groundwater Drawdown in Subsidence Sensitive Areas

    Författare :Jonas Sundell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inverse modelling; cost-benefit analysis; probabilistic; groundwater drawdown; urban hydrogeology; economic valuation; groundwater leakage; subsidence; value of information analysis.; spatial variability; uncertainty quantification; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : Groundwater leakage into sub-surface constructions can result in drawdown, subsidence in compressible materials, and costly damage to buildings and installations. When planning for sub-surface constructions where there is a risk for land subsidence due to groundwater drawdown, the need for safety measures must be carefully evaluated and managed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Remote Sensing and GIS : Applications for Groundwater Potential Assessment in Eritrea

    Författare :Semere Solomon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Remote sensing; Geographic Information Systems; groundwater; geomorphology; Digital elevation model; lithology; hard rock; lineament; structures; hydrogeology; Eritrea;

    Sammanfattning : An integrated approach with remote sensing, GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) and more traditional fieldworktechniques was adopted to assess the groundwater potential inthe central highlands of Eritrea. Digitally enhanced colorcomposites and panchromatic images of Landsat TM and Spot wereinterpreted to produce thematic maps such as lithology andlineaments. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Groundwater impact assessment and protection

    Författare :Åse Eliasson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Physically-based groundwater modelling; contamination; flow and solute transport; glaciofluvial deposits; Nybroåsen; Sweden; and multi-criteria decision-aid;

    Sammanfattning : In the recent decades, therehave been frequent conflicts between groundwater waterresources and environmentally hazardous activities. Newmethodologies for aiding decision-making in groundwater impactassessment and protection areneeded and in which issues ofincreased awareness, better understanding of the groundwaterresources processes, and validation of predictive mathematicalmodels are addressed. 4. 4. Risk Estimation of Groundwater Drawdown in Subsidence Sensitive Areas

    Författare :Jonas Sundell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty quantification; urban hydrogeology; pore pressure reduction; subsidence; geostatistics; groundwater leakage; soft soil; groundwater drawdown; spatial variability; settlement; probabilistic; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : Groundwater drawdown induced ground subsidence is a severe problem in many regions around the world. Leakage of groundwater into a sub-surface construction, resulting in drawdown and subsequent subsidence, can lead to immense damage costs on buildings and installations in urban areas. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location

    Författare :Imran Ali Jamali; Bo Olofsson; Stephen Foster; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Subsurface dams; Groundwater; GIS; Regolith thickness; Groundwater; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam.
