  1. 1. Mental Imagery in the Experience of Literary Narrative : Views from Embodied Cognition

    Författare :Anezka Kuzmicova; Göran Rossholm; Marie-Laure Ryan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; literary narrative; mental imagery; embodiment; embodied cognition; imagination; reading; reader response; sensorimotor simulation; interpretation; aesthetics; narrative theory; Literature; litteraturvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Defined as vicarious sensorimotor experiencing, mental imagery is a powerful source of aesthetic enjoyment in everyday life and, reportedly, one of the commonest things readers remember about literary narratives in the long term. Furthermore, it is positively correlated with other dimensions of reader response, most notably with emotion. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Textmedierade virtuella världar : Narration, perception och kognition

    Författare :Ulf Pettersson; Lars Elleström; Paul Tenngart; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; intermediality; virtual worlds; possible worlds; fictional worlds; storyworlds; reader response; semiotics; Gestalt psychology; cognitive linguistics; cognitive psychology; cognitive poetics; reading process; mental models; situation models; schemata; scripts; narratology; diegetic levels; focalization; transactional theory; iconicity; immersion; aesthetic illusion; gaps; concretization; mental places; integration network models; blending; conceptual metaphors; Intermedialitet; läsprocess; mentala bilder; mentala modeller; möjliga världar; fiktionsvärldar; virtuella världar; mentala platser; semiotik; kognitionsforskning; kognitiv semantik; kognitiv lingvistik; kognitiv poetik; narratologi; fokalisering; diegetiska nivåer; luckor; schemata; scripts; estetisk illusion; ikonicitet;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis synthezises theories from intermedia studies, semiotics, Gestalt psychology, cognitive linguistics, cognitive psychology, cognitive poetics, reader response criticism, narratology and possible worlds-theories adjusted to literary studies. The aim is to provide a transdisciplinary explanatory model of the transaction between text and reader during the reading process resulting in the reader experiencing a mental, virtual world. 3. 3. Studying Simulations with Distributed Cognition

    Författare :Jonas Rybing; Magnus Bång; Erik Prytz; Sofie Pilemalm; Henrik Eriksson; Anne Blandford; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Simulations are frequently used techniques for training, performance assessment, and prediction of future outcomes. In this thesis, the term “human-centered simulation” is used to refer to any simulation in which humans and human cognition are integral to the simulation’s function and purpose (e.g., simulation-based training). 4. 4. Reality-based brain-computer interaction

    Författare :Daniel Sjölie; Lars-Erik Janlert; Johan Eriksson; John Waterworth; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reality-based brain-computer interaction; virtual reality; reality-based interaction; brain-computer interface; activity theory; the free-energy principle; grounded cognition; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap; Computer science; Datalogi; människa-datorinteraktion; människa-datorinteraktion;

    Sammanfattning : Recent developments within human-computer interaction (HCI) and cognitive neuroscience have come together to motivate and enable a framework for HCI with a solid basis in brain function and human reality. Human cognition is increasingly considered to be critically related to the development of human capabilities in the everyday environment (reality). LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present a collection of case studies involving small groups of participants using ‘Controllable Worlds’—i.e., a particular class of physics digital learning environment (DLE) including simulations, ‘microworlds,’ and educational games that provides users with control over manipulable virtual environments.
