6. Estimation Problems in Array Signal Processing, System Identification, and Radar Imagery
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with parameter estimation, signal processing, and applications. In the first part, imaging using radar is considered. More specifically, two methods are presented for estimation and removal of ground-surface reflections in ground penetrating radar which otherwise hinder reliable detection of shallowly buried landmines. 7. Estimation of snow wetness using multi-offset ground penetrating radar : towards more accurate estimates of snow water equivalent
Sammanfattning : Measurements of snow water equivalent (SWE) constitute an important input to hydrological models used to predict snowmelt runoffs. The new generation of such models use distributed snow data, including distribution of SWE, as input, and rely on it for calibration and validation. LÄS MER
8. Improving snow water equivalent estimates with ground penetrating radar by measuring on multiple channels
Sammanfattning : Snow water equivalent (SWE) of a snowpack is often measured along well-chosen transects representative of an area of interest, such as a drainage basin, to capture spatial distribution of SWE, which is of great interest for many applications. For example, it is a useful input to the new generation of hydrological models used for snow melt run-off predictions. LÄS MER
9. Dynamics of the cold surface layer of polythermal Storglaciären, Sweden
Sammanfattning : Polythermal glaciers, i.e. glaciers with a combination of ice at and below the freezing point, are widespread in arctic and subarctic environments. The polythermal structure has major implications for glacier hydrology, ice flow and glacial erosion. LÄS MER
10. Characterization of Hydrogeological Media Using Electromagnetic Geophysics
Sammanfattning : Radio magnetotellurics (RMT), crosshole ground penetrating radar (GPR), and crosshole electrical resistance tomography (ERT) were applied in a range of hydrogeological applications where geophysical data could improve hydrogeological characterization. A profile of RMT data collected over highly resistive granite was used to map subhorizontal fracture zones below 300m depth, as well as a steeply dipping fracture zone, which was also observed on a coinciding seismic reflection profile.
