1. Pollen-based quantitative reconstruction of land-cover change in Europe from 11,500 years ago until present - A dataset suitable for climate modelling
Sammanfattning : The major objective of this thesis was to produce descriptions of the land vegetation-cover in Europe for selected time windows of the Holocene (6000, 3000, 500, 200, and 50 calendar years before present (BP=1950)) that can be used in climate modelling. Land vegetation is part of the climate system; its changes influence climate through biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes. LÄS MER
2. Electricity access for human development in the Brazilian Amazon
Sammanfattning : Electricity access is widely recognized as a driver of development. The Brazilian government has incorporated this principle into its national rural electrification program, Luz Para Todos (LPT – Light for all), which has already benefited more than 14 million people in the country since its inception in 2003. 3. Towards Enabling Exploration of Planetary Subterranean Environments using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel navigation framework established to enable the exploration of planetary subterranean areas with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The key contributions of this thesis work form a robot-safe rapid navigation framework that utilizes a novel bifurcating frontier-based exploration approach. LÄS MER
4. High Order Local Radial Basis Function Methods for Atmospheric Flow Simulations
Sammanfattning : Since the introduction of modern computers, numerical methods for atmospheric simulations have routinely been applied for weather prediction, and in the last fifty years, there has been a steady improvement in the accuracy of forecasts. Accurate numerical models of the atmosphere are also becoming more important as researchers rely on global climate simulations to assess and understand the impact of global warming. LÄS MER
5. Grid and High-Performance Computing for Applied Bioinformatics
Sammanfattning : The beginning of the twenty-first century has been characterized by an explosion of biological information. The avalanche of data grows daily and arises as a consequence of advances in the fields of molecular biology and genomics and proteomics. LÄS MER
