1. Green-Blue Water Potential: : Building water resilience to attain the SDGs on food and poverty in Africa
Sammanfattning : Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of eradicating hunger and securing sustainable food for all by 2030, constitutes a major global challenge, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Here, malnourishment, poverty, and population growth are among the highest in the world, and some regions are constantly subject to extreme water variability and scarcity. LÄS MER
2. Water Realities and Development Trajectories : Global and Local Agricultural Production Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Water constraints for humans and nature are gaining more and more public attention as a critical environmental dilemma that needs to be addressed. When aquifers and rivers are running dry, the debate refers to an ongoing “world water crisis”. LÄS MER
3. Hydrological and sediment yield modelling in Lake Tana Basin, Blue Nile Ethiopia
Sammanfattning : Land and water resources degradation are the major problems on the Ethiopian highlands. Poor land use practices and improper management systems have played a significant role in causing high soil erosion rates, sediment transport and loss of agricultural nutrients. So far limited meas-ures have been taken to combat the problems. LÄS MER
4. Green Urban Drainage Infrastructure : Hydrology and Modelling of Grass Swales
Sammanfattning : The management of urban runoff has evolved along with the advancement of understanding of runoff environmental impacts. Besides the impacts on water quality in the receiving waters, the impacts on the urban hydrologic regime include reduced infiltration by the sealing of pervious land, reduced evapotranspiration by removal of vegetation, and the resulting increase of stormwater runoff peaks and volumes causing flooding, and ultimately degradation of receiving waters. 5. A Triply Green Revolution : Building water resilience for SDGs on food and poverty for Africa
Sammanfattning : Sub-Saharan Africa is confronted with the urgent challenge of ensuring food security in the face of changing demographics, climate change and water vulnerability, which can lead to potential crop failure. Despite the high advocacy for technological solutions, such as irrigation, rainfed agricultural systems, which account for more than 90% of the region's food production, often remain overlooked.
