1. The potential of wetlands for mitigation of eutrophication and brownification
Sammanfattning : Increasing nutrient concentrations (eutrophication) and water color due to dissolved organic matter (brownification) pose continuous threats to freshwater ecosystems worldwide, threatening ecosystem services like drinking water supply. Changing the increasing trends of eutrophication and brownification on our aquatic ecosystems is challenging. LÄS MER
2. Microbial Electrochemical System: extracellular electron transfer from photosynthesis and respiration to electrode
Sammanfattning : The electrochemical communication between microorganisms and electrodes has substantial implications both for basic understanding of biological electron transfer as well as in diverse applications, such as, microbial electrochemical system (MES), microbial biosensors and in production of valuable chemicals. In these systems the extracellular electron transfer (EET) from microbial metabolism to electrodes is restricted due to the insulated cellular exterior made of lipid structures. LÄS MER
3. Treatment of Textile Wastewater by Combining Biological Processes and Advanced Oxidation
Sammanfattning : Treatment of textile wastewater is challenging because the water contains toxic compounds that have low biodegradability. Dyes, detergents, surfactants, biocides and more are used to improve the textile process and to make the clothes resistant to physical, chemical and biological agents. LÄS MER
4. Calcareous Algae of a Tropical Lagoon : Primary Productivity, Calcification and Carbonate Production
Sammanfattning : The green algae of the genus Halimeda Lamouroux (Chlorophyta, Bryopsidales) and the encrusting loose-lying red coralline algae (Rhodophyta, Corallinales) known as rhodoliths are abundant and widespread in all oceans. They significantly contribute to primary productivity while alive and production of CaCO3 rich sediment materials on death and decay. LÄS MER
5. Secondary chlorophyll a luminescence decay kinetics from green algae and higher plants : mechanisms and application
Sammanfattning : Barley protoplasts were shown to be a suitable experimental system for studies on the relative maximum during the decay of luminescence observed in most photosynthetic systems after excitation with far red light and in the presence of O2. The far red induced relative luminescencemaximum was shown to be a result of three coinciding events:*Randomization of the S-states of the water splitting system during illumination with far red light.
