  1. 1. Pictorial Primates: A Search for Iconic Abilities in Great Apes

    Författare :Tomas Persson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; match-to-sample; comparative cognition; categorization; Pan paniscus; Gorilla gorilla; signs; reference; iconicity; symbols; pictures; primatology; object-choice-task; enculturation;

    Sammanfattning : Pictures and other iconic media are used extensively in psychological experiments on nonhuman primate perception, categorisation, etc. They are also used in everyday interaction with primates, and as pure entertainment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genomics of population decline

    Författare :Tom van der Valk; Katerina Guschanski; Aylwyn Scally; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genetic diversity; minimal-invasive samples; population decline; inbreeding; genetic purging; eastern gorillas; Dryas monkey; Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : With human populations forecasted to grow in the next decades, many mammals face increasing anthropogenic threats. The consequential population declines are a precursor to extinctions, as small populations are not only more sensitive to stochastic events, but reduction in population size is generally also followed by a decrease in genetic diversity, which in turn reduces adaptive potential and fitness of the population. Sammanfattning : In recent decades, Rwanda has been affected by the loss and fragmentation of natural habitats for native species of animals and plants. As a consequence, landscape connectivity—i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The polymorphism of the minisatellite system D2S44

    Författare :Gunilla Holmlund; Bjrønar Olaisen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The polymorphism of the minisatellite system D2S44 comprises all the polymorphisms typical for a minisatellite sequence; from variation in fragment length caused by a restriction site polymorphism or due to variation in the number of a repeated core sequence, to a core sequence polymorphism comprising four variants and variation in the order in which these variants are iterated in tandem. All these polymorphisms can be utilised in paternity investigations, and analysis of the order of variant repeats in parent-child combinations showed that the D2S44 incompatibilities found are due to a mutation in the parental allele.
