  1. 11. On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

    Författare :Mattias Belting; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cationic lipid.; gene transfer; gene therapy; cell growth; polyamine transport; spermine; polyamine; growth-inhibition; heparan sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA. 2. 12. Host response in sepsis

    Författare :Ingrid Berkestedt; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; severe sepsis; contact system; glycosaminoglycan; antimicrobial peptide; human;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a serious condition characterized by a systemic inflammatory response to an infection. Increased vascular leakage, vasodilation and heart failure cause circulatory disturbances challenging the intensivist. Despite modern medication and high technology supportive care, mortality is high. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The glycobiology of human adenovirus infections : implications for tropism and treatment

    Författare :Naresh Chandra; Niklas Arnberg; Lars Frängsmyr; Gunnel Haldén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; denovirus; cellular receptor; glycosaminoglycan; sialic acid; decoy receptors; tropism; epidemic keratoconjunctivitis; antiviral drugs; GAG-mimetic; obesity; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology;

    Sammanfattning : Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are common human pathogens, causing gastrointestinal, ocular, and respiratory infections on a regular basis. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) is a severe ocular infection for which no approved antivirals are available. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Development and application of strategies for the analysis of modification patterns in chondroitin and dermatan sulphate

    Författare :Fang Cheng; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; reumatologi; muskelsystem; Skelett; Glycosaminoglycan; Proteoglycan; Chondroitin sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Sequencing analysis; Modification pattern.; Skeleton; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Chondroitin (CS) and dermatan sulphate (DS) are socalled glycosaminoglycans (GAG) that are covalently attached to various type of proteins forming a subgroup within the diverse proteoglycan (PG) family. The PGs studied in this thesis are mostly extracellularly located and include aggrecan, biglycan and decorin. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The role of polysaccharide modifications during Drosophila development

    Författare :Florian Lüders; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ontogeni; growth animal ; embryologi; Development biology; Decapentaplegic; Hedgehog; Wingless; Sulfation; Pipe; Glycosaminoglycan; Glycosyltransferase; ontogeny; embryology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Glucosides attached to proteins and lipids have been shown to modulate the activity of signal transduction pathways regulating growth and patterning processes during animal development. In particular, O-linked glycans such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) have been implicated in modulation of growth factor signaling pathways. LÄS MER
