  1. 11. Repertoire diversity and maturation of HIV-1 vaccine-induced B cell responses

    Författare :Ganesh Eknath Phad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In the work presented in this thesis, I characterized B cell responses in rhesus macaques inoculated with HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein (Env)-based vaccines to define genetic and functional properties of the elicited antibodies for an improved understanding of Env immunogenicity. In Paper I, we investigated antibody heavy chain V gene segment expression in the overall B cell repertoire and in response to vaccination by using 2 approaches, 454-pyrosequencing and single-cell RT-PCR of bulk and sorted memory B cells, respectively. 2. 12. Genetic regulation of, and autoimmunity in, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis and multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Erik Wallström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :multiple sclerosis; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis; myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein; autoimmunity; major histocompatibility complex;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system (CNS) with inflammation and plaques of demyelination. This thesis examines the genetic and immunological requirements or rat experiment autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of MS, to display both inflammatory and demyelinated CNS lesions with chronic and/or relapsing-remitting disease courses. 3. 13. Pathogenesis of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in DBA/1 mice

    Författare :Khairul-Bariah Abdul-Majid; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is an animal model of the human autoimmune disease, multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is prevalent among the Caucasian population and linkage analysis studies have indicated that the presence of certain MHC class II genes can increase the risk of manifesting MS. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Cellular and molecular mechanisms for induction of broad anti-viral B cell responses through vaccination

    Författare :Sebastian Ols; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Viral infections contribute to significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The immense diversity across and within viral families poses a substantial challenge for the development of prophylaxis and therapeutics. Vaccines are one of the most effective medical interventions to prevent infectious diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Herpes simplex virus infection: epidemiological aspects and analysis of the type-specific antibody response

    Författare :Petra Tunbäck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; herpes simplex virus; first episode genital herpes; seroepidemiology type-specific antibody-response; glycoprotein G-1; epitope-mapping;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) are ubiquitous viruses, often leading to asymptomatic infections in humans. However, different clinical presentations can be seen including recurrent oral or genital lesions, meningitis and neonatal herpes. LÄS MER
