  2. 12. Unraveling the immune response in sepsis and meningitis. Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches

    Författare :Jane Fisher; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; meningtis; sepsis; neutrophil extracellular traps NETs ; glymphatic system; DNase; pneumococci;

    Sammanfattning : Severe infections continue to constitute a large burden, with high mortality and risk of sequelae. Sepsis is a dysregulated host response to an infection that causes life threatening organ damage. Meningitis is a severe infection of the brain that often leads to sepsis and death or lasting neurological damage. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The enterocyte in small intestinal adaption : an experimental and clinicopathological study with special reference to the ultrastructure of the brush border

    Författare :Roger Stenling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Scanning electron microscopy; transmission electron microscopy; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : The small intestine mucosa is known to be able to adapt itself to several kinds of both physiological and pathological conditions. The adaptive patterns of the structure of the enterocytes, particularly their apical surface (brush border), were studied in three models: (1) in rats, subjected to antrectomy or antral exclusion, combined with gastroduodenostomy and gastrojejunostomy; (2) in rats with alloxan diabetes; (3) in children with coeliac disease; a) in its active phase; b) after long-term treatment with gluten-free diets; c) after long-term challenge with dietary gluten following treatment; d) after short-term elimination of dietary gluten. 4. 14. Innate and adaptive immunity in childhood celiac disease

    Författare :Göte Forsberg; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Riccardo Troncone; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory small-bowel enteropathy caused by a permanent intolerance to wheat gluten and related proteins in rye and barley. Even though the disease originate from the small intestine the clinical symptoms varies in affected individuals and are often different in small children compared to adolescents and adults. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Relationship between Transmembrane Mucins, Ion Channels and PDZ Adaptor Proteins in the Small Intestine

    Författare :Thaher Pelaseyed; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestine; mucin; MUC3; MUC17; SEA; PDZK1; GOPC; CFTR; NHE3;

    Sammanfattning : The human body is continuously exposed to challenges from the surrounding world. In analogy with the skin, mucus is a well-organized and highly regulated barrier composed of polymeric and O-glycosylated mucins that protects luminal organs such as the gastrointestinal tracts from the outer milieu.
