16. ß-Adrenergic receptor gene polymorphism in dilated cardiomyopathy. Clinical and functional relevance
Sammanfattning : During normal physiological conditions, catecholamines induce positive inotropic and chronotropic responses in the heart through a ß-adrenergic receptor (AR)-activated pathway. The agonist-bound ßAR selectively interacts with the stimulatory Gs-protein, which activates adenylyl cyclase, catalyzing cAMP formation. LÄS MER
17. Characterization of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARa) regulated acyl-CoA thioesterases involved in lipid metabolism
Sammanfattning : The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) is a key nuclear receptor in the control of lipid metabolism. Target genes for PPARalpha include many enzymes involved in the oxidation of fatty acids in mitochondria and peroxisomes. LÄS MER
18. Decoding NK cell receptor specificity : functional and structural studies of MHC class 1 subcomponents
Sammanfattning : Natural Killer (NK) cells are an important part of the innate immune system. They can lyse target cells and secrete immunoregulatory cytokines early during immune responses. They mediate protection against viruses and tumours, and can reject MHC class I mismatched bone marrow grafts. LÄS MER
19. Regulation of protein degradation by virus derived repeated amino acid sequences
Sammanfattning : The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway plays a central role in the controlled degradation of short-lived and regulatory proteins important m a variety of cellular processes, including antigen presentation and combating viral infections. The presentation of antigenic peptides derived from ubiquitin-proteasome dependent degradation of vital proteins to MHC class I restricted cytotoxic T cells is a central component of antiviral responses. 20. On amino acid neurotransmitters in the spinal cord motor nuclei
Sammanfattning : Using pre- and post-embedding immunocytochemistry, the distribution of six amino acid neurotransmitter candidates, with special reference to y-amino-butyric acid (GABA), glycine and glutamate was examined in boutons apposing somata and dendrites in the lumbar motor nuclei of the cat spinal cord. The monosynaptic connection between muscle spindle I a afferents and motoneurons regarding content of neuroactive amino acid and complement of amino acid receptors in the postsynaptic membrane was studied in the rat.
