1. Diabetes and cognitive functioning : the role of age and comorbidity
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the influence of type 2 diabetes on cognitive function in adulthood and very old age. The effects of diabetes are studied both in populations free from dementia, and in a clinical Alzheimer's disease population. LÄS MER
2. Epidemiological aspects of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality among individuals with diabetes: the relative importance of cardiovascular risk factors
Sammanfattning : Background: Long-term trends of cardiovascular complications and death among patients with diabetes have not been studied extensively. In addition, we aimed to examine the effect of multifactorial risk factor control, as well as optimal levels- and relative importance of cardiovascular risk factors, in patients with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. 3. Semi-mechanistic models of glucose homeostasis and disease progression in type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by consistently high blood glucose, resulting from a combination of insulin resistance and reduced capacity of β-cells to secret insulin. While the exact causes of T2DM is yet unknown, obesity is known to be a major risk factor as well as co-morbidity for T2DM. LÄS MER
4. Trait anxiety as a determinant of psychological test results
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the problem of interpreting test scores. The intention has been to explore and elucidate the effects of trait anxiety on test scores that have been obtained in applied research settings. LÄS MER
5. On cardiovascular complications in people with type 2 diabetes : Aspects of incretin-based therapy and glycemic control
Sammanfattning : Background: Hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and the presence of advanced glycation end products are key features of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the leading mechanisms behind the increased cardiovascular risk observed in people with this condition. Percutaneous coronary revascularization has been associated with higher risk of stent failure in people with diabetes mellitus (DM), having greater risk of both in-stent restenosis (ISR) and stent thrombosis (ST).
