  1. 1. Nitrogen and Redox Metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Eva Albers; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; glutamate; protein expression; anaerobic physiology; nitrogen metabolism; redox; serine;

    Sammanfattning : Anaerobic conversion of glucose to ethanol by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been studied. Glycerol is formed as a by-product in order to maintain the overall redox balance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Enzyme-Based Amperometric Biosensors in Flow-Systems for Biomolecule Detection

    Författare :Niklas Larsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microdialysis; Liquid chromatography; Flow injection; Polyelectrolytes; Carbohydrate; Mediator; Dehydrogenase; Peroxidase; Oxidase; Enzyme; Amperometric detection; Carbon paste; Biosensor; Graphite electrode; On-line monitoring; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Amperometric enzyme based biosensors were designed, developed and characterised in flow systems. Solid graphite and carbon paste electrodes were used as support for enzyme immobilisation. Both mediated and direct electron transfers between redox enzymes and electrodes were utilised for biosensor construction, as well as coupled enzyme systems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Role of Proline Catabolism in Candida albicans Pathogenesis

    Författare :Fitz Gerald S. Silao; Per O. Ljungdahl; Joachim Morschhäuser; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Candida albicans; proline metabolism; ATP; P5C; virulence; macrophage; hyphae; filamentation; Ras1 cAMP PKA; mitochondria; Proline dehydrogenase; P5C dehydrogenase; reactive oxygen species; Proline-P5C cycle; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that has evolved in close association with human hosts. Pathogenicity is linked to an array of virulence characteristics expressed in response to environmental cues and that reflect the requirement to take up and metabolize nutrients available in the host. 4. 4. On the stability of proteins from hyperthermophiles : a structural and thermodynamic study

    Författare :Stefan Knapp; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Protein stability; hyperthermophiles; X-ray crystallography; glutamate dehydrogenase; Sso7d.;

    Sammanfattning : In this study the structural and thermodynamic basis of the thermal stability of proteins has been studied using proteins from hyperthermophilic organisms as model systems. A new type of chaperonin (TF55) has been isolated from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus consisting of two different subunits named TF55-alpha and TF55-beta. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Alpha-class glutathione transferases as steroid isomerases and scaffolds for protein redesign

    Författare :Pär L. Pettersson; Roberta F. Colman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The present work focuses on the glutathione transferase (GST) Alpha-class enzymes, their characteristics as steroid isomerases and structural plasticity as malleable scaffolds for protein design. The GSTs are a family of detoxication enzymes that appears to have a wider variety of additional functions. LÄS MER
