  1. 1. Solar radiation effects on decomposition and decomposers of plant litter in lakes

    Författare :Måns Denward; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glucosidase; photo inhibition; photo oxidation; littoral; lakes; ergosterol; fungi; phragmites; bacteria; UV-B; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the results of a series of experiments, from test tube up to field study scale, performed to increase the understanding of solar radiation effects on decomposition and microbial decomposers of plant litter in stagnant water of littoral zones. In conclusion, I suggest that fungi play a significant role in the decomposition of plant litter submersed in lakes, and that their distribution is dependent on detritus quality and water chemistry, but also tends to be inversely related to the occurrence of bacteria attached to the litter. 2. 2. Synthesis of O-linked Carbasugar Analogues of Galactofuranosides and N-linked Neodisaccharides

    Författare :Jens Frigell; Ian Cumpstey; George Fleet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbasugar; galactofuranose; mycobacterium; tuberculosis; ring-closing metathesis; GlfT2; galactan; epoxide-opening; pseudodisaccharide; etherification; regioselective; carbohydrate; carbocycles; glycomimetics; glucosidase; neodisaccharides; Mitsunobu; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, carbohydrate mimicry is investigated through the syntheses of carbohydrate analogues and evaluation of their inhibitory effects on carbohydrate-processing enzymes. Galactofuranosides are interesting structures because they are common motifs in pathogenic microorganisms but not found in mammals. M. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exploring thermostable glycoside hydrolases: Amylases and beta-glucosidases

    Författare :Pernilla Turner; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Proteiner; beta-glucosidase; thermostability; activity; cyclodextrinase; enzymology; crystallization; enzymologi; expression; glycoside hydrolase; Proteins; transglycosylation;

    Sammanfattning : Two putative cyclodextrinases (CDases) were amplified from two moderate thermophiles isolated in Iceland: Anoxybacillus flavithermus and Laceyella sacchari. They were cloned, expressed and characterized. The expression of the former was optimized in E. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Enzymatic hydrolysis coupled to hot water extraction for determination of flavonoids in plants

    Författare :Sofia Lindahl; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; extraction; flavonoids; quercetin; biocatalysis; beta-glucosidase; sustainable chemistry; hyphenation; molecularly imprinted polymers; onion;

    Sammanfattning : The word sustainability is more and more frequently used within the field of chemistry and in many other fields. Green or sustainable chemistry was introduced during the 90 ́s as a field of chemistry where the environmental and health impacts of processes and products are evaluated and improved. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Trametes versicolor as biodegrader and biocatalyst when using lignocellulose for ethanol production

    Författare :Marie Holmgren; Anita Sellstedt; Mohammad Taherzadeh; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lignocellulose; 5-carbon; 6-carbon; Trametes versicolor; xylose reductase; xylitol dehydrogenase; xylulokinase; phenolics; levulinic acid; HMF; furfural; biodegrader; biocatalyst; pretreatment; xylanase; beta-glucosidase;

    Sammanfattning : Energy consumption has increased rapidly during the last century due to population growth and greater industrialization. Lignocellulosic-based biofuels are being developed as alternatives to fossil fuels. For many years the question of how 5-carbon sugars in biomass are utilized in nature has been a vexed one. LÄS MER
