21. Cellobiose dehydrogenase on electrodes - an electrochemical biosensor for various analytes tunable by positive charges
Sammanfattning : Cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) is a sugar oxidizing enzyme secreted by various species of wood degrading fungi to assist the process of wood degradation. It can oxidise analytically relevant sugars as cellobiose, lactose or glucose leading to a gain of two electrons per sugar molecule. LÄS MER
22. Strategies for improved Escherichia coli bioprocessing performance
Sammanfattning : Escherichia coli has a proven track record for successful production of anything from small molecules like organic acids to large therapeutic proteins, and has thus important applications in both R&D and commercial production. The versatility of this organism in combination with the accumulated knowledge of its genome, metabolism and physiology, has allowed for development of specialty strains capable of performing very specific tasks, opening up opportunities within new areas. 23. Microdialysis and Intensive Care. Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Microdialysis was used to monitor local concentrations of energy metabolites in different organs, and to study the pharmacokinetics of morphine over the blood-brain barrier in intact and injured brain tissue in conditions treated in the Intensive Care Unit. After major abdominal or thoracoabdominal surgery, postoperative thoracic epidural analgesia resulted in higher glycerol concentrations in the deltoid subcutaneous adipose tissue, implying increased lipolysis, on the third postoperative day as compared to intravenous infusion of morphine, possibly due to a locally increased sympathetic tone. 24. Regulation of intracellular signaling events that modulate insulin action
Sammanfattning : Insulin regulates several mechanisms of fundamental importance to the body involving glucose, fat andprotein metabolism. Insulin resistance in skeletal muscle, liver and adipose tissue promotes an increaseddemand for insulin secretion. LÄS MER
25. Insights into the metabolism of Clostridium thermocellum for cellulosic ethanol production
Sammanfattning : The societal goal of reaching net-zero CO2 emissions requires development of integrated biorefineries to produce biomass-derived fuels and chemicals. For sustainable second-generation bioethanol production, consolidated bioprocessing with the thermophile Clostridium thermocellum is regarded as a promising concept in view of the microorganism’s native ability to efficiently degrade plant cell wall material.
