  1. 6. Expression of the glucose-6-phosphatase system in endocrine cells

    Författare :Bee-Hoon Goh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Glue os e- 6 -phphspatas e; G6PC; G6PT1; G6PC2; G6PC3; pancreatic islets; InR1G9 cells; GLUTag cells; glucagon producing a-cells; GLP-1 producing L-cells.;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose-6-phosphatase (G6pase) is a multi-component enzyme system, which regulates the catalysis of gluco se-6 -phosphate (G6P) to glucose and inorganic phosphate. This reaction constitutes the final steps of both gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, processes that are critical in the maintenance of glucose homeostasis. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Genetic and immunological risk factors of gestational diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Nael Shaat; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GDM; Association; genetics; gestational diabetes mellitus metabolic syndrome; MODY; type 1 diabetes; risk factors; type 2 diabetes; Endocrinology; diabetology; secreting systems; autoimmunity; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a heterogeneous disorder that is defined as carbohydrate intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. Impaired beta-cell function and insulin resistance are the hallmarks of GDM. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Development of novel PET radioligands for visualizing beta cell mass and amyloid plaques

    Författare :Mahabuba Jahan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was twofold. The first aim was to radiolabel small molecules by using carbon-11 and fluorine-18 for visualising beta cell mass (BCM) in the pancreas by PET. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that results from an absolute or relative lack of BCM of endocrine pancreas. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Exploring the Grey Zone between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Ekaterine Bakhtadze; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : T1D is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin producing pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain risk genotypes such as HLA-DQB1, INS VNTR, PTPN22 and need of insulin for survival. In adults the same situation is often referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), with age at onset after 35 years and non-insulin requiring at least for 6 month after diagnosis.
