  1. 1. Studies on the deposition, bioavailability and systemic activity of glucocorticoids in man

    Författare :Lars Thorsson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacological sciences; systemic activity; glucocorticosteroids; lung deposition; systemic availability; inhalation; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The local deposition, pharmacokinetics, and systemic activity of inhaled and intranasal glucocorticosteroids in different formulations and devices(ICSs) has been investigated. After nasal administration of the ICS budesonide (Bud), the systemic availability (F) was found to be significantly higher from an aqueous pump spray and from the powder inhaler Turbuhaler, than from a pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI), and the uptake process was slower and less complete with the pMDI formulation. 2. 2. Female genital Graft-versus-Host Disease - Diagnosis, Treatment, Incidence, Long-term Prevalence, and Impact on Androgen Hormones and Sexual Function

    Författare :Eva Smith Knutsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allogeneic stem cell transplantation; chronic graft-versus-host disease; female genitalia; diagnostic; treatment; androgens in women; glucocorticosteroids; sexual dysfunction;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT BACKGROUND. Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD) is the major cause of morbidity after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT), and contributes to non-relapse mortality. Caused by donor cells, cGvHD is a multi-organ syndrome involving tissue inflammation and fibrosis. AIMS. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nitric oxide in exhaled gas : studies on physiological regulation and measurements in infants and children

    Författare :Andreas Artlich; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adrenaline; adrenoceptor; artificial ventilation; asthma; carbon dioxide; catecholamines; chemiluminescence; child; cilia; exhaled gas; focal adhesion complex; high frequency oscillatory ventilation; lung; mechanotransduction; newborn; nitric oxide; glucocorticosteroids; stretch;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is found in the exhaled gas of humans, starting from birth, and is increased in adult patients with bronchial asthma. This study assessed whether the measurement of NO in exhaled gas is technically feasible in infants and children. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neuropeptides in temporomandibular joint arthritis

    Författare :Anna Appelgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adjuvant; Arthritis; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; Glucocorticosteroids; Hippocampus; Hyperalgesia; Hypothalamus; Hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis; Intra-articular temperature; Neurokinin A; Neuropeptides; Neuropeptide Y; Nociception; Pain; Pituitary; Pressure pain threshold; Rheumatoid arthritis; Substance P; Synovial fluid; Temporomandibularjoint; Visual analog scale;

    Sammanfattning : Involvement of the peripheral and central nervous systems in the pathophysiology of arthritis has been suggested and neuropeptides are thought to participate in the mediation and modulation of the inflammatory process. The main objective of the clinical studies was to investigate the relationship between the presence of neuropeptides in the synovial fluid of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the stomatognathic symptoms and signs, including the intra-articular temperature (IAT), in patients with TMJ arthritis. 5. 5. Development of multi-cellular human lung models to study inflammatory mechanisms and cell-cell interactions

    Författare :Jie Ji; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that exposure to toxicants in the environment is associated with a wide range of health effects. The airway epithelium which forms the first line of defense, plays critical roles in the defence against inhaled particles, pathogens and toxic agents. LÄS MER
