  1. 1. Mortality and morbidity in patients with Addison's disease

    Författare :Ragnhildur Bergthorsdottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Addison s disease; mortality; glucocorticoid s ; glucocorticoid replacement therapy; cardiovascular diseases; bone mineral density; osteoporosis; quality of life;

    Sammanfattning : Addison's disease (AD) or primary adrenal insufficiency is a rare disease with an estimated prevalence of 100-140 per million inhabitants and deadly unless treated with glucocorticoids (GCs). Very limited information is available on the morbidity and mortality in this patient group. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Non-functioning pituitary adenomas and hypopituitarism - studies on morbidity and mortality

    Författare :Casper Hammarstrand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Non-functioning pituitary adenomas; Hypopituitarism; Glucocorticoid replacement; Growth hormone replacement; Morbidity; Mortality; Cancer; LDL-cholesterol;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Hypopituitarism is most commonly caused by benign pituitary tumors, often resulting in insidious symptoms that develop over a long time. Due to either a mass effect exerted by the tumor, or due to the surgical treatment, hormonal deficiencies may arise, requiring hormone replacement. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Glucocorticoids - outcome in patients with glucocorticoid deficiency and Cushing's syndrome

    Författare :Oskar Ragnarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular risk; bone mineral density; paediatric; final height; cognitive function; fatigue; attentional network test; body composition; sarcopaenia; growth hormone;

    Sammanfattning : Glucocorticoids (GCs) are steroid hormones that have a major impact on human metabolism and are essential for life. Chronic GC overexposure, called Cushing’s syndrome, is characterized by central obesity, muscle atrophy, osteoporosis, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance and neurocognitive impairment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Long-term effects of pre- and postnatal glucocorticoid treatment in congenital adrenal hyperplasia

    Författare :Leif Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disorder mostly caused by mutations in the CYP21A2 gene leading to impaired production of cortisol and aldosterone. Precursors in the steroidogenic pathway are shunted to pathways of androgen production and elevated levels of androgens may cause virilization of the external genitalia in females with CAH already in utero. 5. 5. Aspects of diagnosis and treatment of hypopituitarism in adult life

    Författare :Helena Filipsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypopituitarism; pituitary; diagnosis; treatment; GHD; central hypothyroidism; genetic; idiopathic; ACTH insufficiency; discontinuation;

    Sammanfattning : Management of adult patients with hypopituitarism can improve with better char¬ac¬terisation of idiopathic pituitary insufficiency (IPI) and clearer diagnosis of central hy¬pothy¬roidism (CH). Moreover, optimised treatment strategies for glucocorticoid (GC) re¬placement therapy and of long-term growth hormone (GH) in GH deficiency (GHD) are needed. LÄS MER
