  1. 1. Estrogen and Glucocorticoid Metabolism

    Författare :Therése Andersson; Tommy Olsson; Cecilia Mattsson; Ingegerd Söderström; Jonas Burén; Agneta Holmäng; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 11β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Type 1; Estrogen; Cortisol; Adipose tissue; Liver; Menopause; Ovariectomy; Adipocyte; Estrogen Receptor β; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in Sweden. The risk of CVD increases rapidly after the menopause. A major contributing factor may be the redistribution of adipose tissue, from the peripheral to central depots, associated with menopause. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Individual glucocorticoid sensitivity in the human

    Författare :Urban Knutsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis; cortisol; dexamethasone suppression test; adrenocorticotropin stimulation test; glucocorticoid receptor mRNA; Metallothionein mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : The expanding use of inhaled and intranasal glucocorticoid (Gc) preparations for treatment of mild-to-moderate asthma and allergic rhinitis has in the last decade greatly increased the number of adults and children chronically exposed to exogenous glucocorticoids. In general, current topical glucocorticoid therapies appear to be well tolerated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Post-Ischemic Housing Conditions Influence On Gene Transcription And Translation After Permanent Focal Brain Ischemia In Rats

    Författare :Li-Ru Zhao; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; mRNA; nerve growth factor-induced gene A; corticosteroid receptors; in situ hybridization; Neurologi; neurophysiology; Neurology; neuropsychology; brain ischemia; enriched environment; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Enriched environment (EE) housing significantly ameliorates neurological deficits induced by cortical brain ischemia without changing infarction size, suggesting that EE-related functional benefits are associated with neuronal plasticity events in the remaining tissue. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor-induced gene A (NGFI-A) and corticosteroid receptors (mineralocorticoid receptor, MR; glucocorticoid receptor, GR) have been demonstrated to be involved in brain plasticity. 4. 4. Hormonal Regulation of the Human CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 Genes

    Författare :Wanjin Tang; Kjell Wikvall; Maria Norlin; Mats Gåfvels; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmaceutical biochemistry; CYP27A1; CYP7B1; cholesterol; estrogen; androgen; prostate; glucocorticoid receptor; fetal development; Farmaceutisk biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and are two key enzymes involved in the pathways for conversion of cholesterol to bile acids. Also, CYP27A1 is involved in bioactivation of vitamin D3 and CYP7B1 plays a role in 7alpha-hydroxylation of dehydroepiandrosterone and other steroids. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Leukocyte-derived matrix metalloproteinase-9 in patients with coronary artery disease : Associations with psychological stress and glucocorticoid sensitivity

    Författare :Simon Jönsson; Lena Jonasson; Anna Lundberg; Magnus Bäck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is closely associated with development of atherosclerosis. The proteolytic enzyme matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 is considered to play a prominent role in this process. MMP-9 has also been introduced as a marker for plaque vulnerability. LÄS MER
