  1. 21. Studies of the human pancreas to understand the pathologic events leading to type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Louise Granlund; Skog Oskar; Olle Korsgren; Marcus Lundberg; Per Andrén; Teresa Rodriguez-Calvo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreas; Type 1 Diabetes; Islets of Langerhans; Exocrine tissue; Acinar cells; Islet Microvasculature; Endocrine cells; Extra-islet cells; Insulin; Glucagon; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is classically described as a disease emanating from beta-cell loss, and as such, the beta cells have been the main target of investigation. However, recent years have witnessed a shift in perspective, with T1D being increasingly recognized as a condition that affects the entire pancreas. LÄS MER

  2. 22. The neuropeptides GRP and PACAP and the function of the endocrine pancreas - A study on receptor deficient mice

    Författare :Kristin Persson; Lund Medicin; []

    Sammanfattning : The parasympathetic nerves are important for the regulation of insulin secretion, in particular after meal intake. Apart from acetylcholine, several neuropeptides can be found in the parasympathetic nerves innervating the islets of Langerhans, including gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP). 3. 23. The Free Fatty Acid Receptor GPR40 - expression and role in islet hormone secretion

    Författare :Erik Flodgren; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; GPCR; Glucagon; GPR40; Insulin; Free fatty acid; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a serious condition of growing proportions. Developing via an increasing imbalance between insulin sensitivity in the peripheral tissues and insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells, it ultimately renders the individual incapable of regulating the blood glucose concentration, e.g. after a meal. 4. 24. Immunopathology of the Pancreas in Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Anna Wiberg; Olle Korsgren; Oskar Skog; Åke Lernmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; glucagon; T cells; autoantibodies; glucose transporters; islets of Langerhans; pancreas; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) results from a loss of functional insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells. The etiology of T1D is poorly understood, but the detection of infiltrating inflammatory cells in the pancreas and circulating autoantibodies has led to the common notion that an autoimmune process plays a central role in the pathogenesis of the disease. 5. 25. Insulin-antagonistic neurohormonal pathways in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Martin Lundqvist; Jan W Eriksson; Niclas Abrahamsson; André van Beek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucagon; cortisol; ACTH; growth hormone; counter-regulation; clamp; hypoglycemia; hyperglycemia; obesity; type 2 diabetes; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : According to the current paradigm, the development of type 2 diabetes is driven by insulin resistance and the gradual failure of beta cells to compensate for this by secreting adequate amounts of insulin. Obesity is an important risk factor for type 2 diabetes and is considered to influence disease development primarily by induction of insulin resistance, via mechanisms that have not been fully elucidated.
