1. A Study of Renal Function in Children with Cancer
Sammanfattning : Evaluation of long-term side effects of treatment is important due to the growing number of childhood cancer survivors. How kidney function is affected over time needs to be clarified. LÄS MER
2. Functional Aspects of the Juxtaglomerular Apparatus : Control of Glomerular Filtration and Renin Release
Sammanfattning : The juxtaglomerular apparatus (JGA) is a control unit of the kidney, that regulates glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renin release, and hence extracellular volume and blood pressure. The tubuloglomerular feedback (TGF) mechanism is a negative feedback loop that regulates GFR. LÄS MER
3. Aspects of Regulation of GFR and Tubular Function in the Diabetic Kidney : Roles of Adenosine, Nitric Oxide and Oxidative Stress
Sammanfattning : Diabetic nephropathy is the main cause for initiation of renal replacement therapy and early symptoms in patients include increased glomerular filtration rate (GFR), decreased oxygen tension and albuminuria, followed by a progressive decline in GFR and loss of kidney function. Experimental models of diabetes display increased GFR, decreased tissue oxygenation and nitric oxide bioavailability. LÄS MER
4. Renal effects of C-peptide in experimental type-1 diabetes mellitus
Sammanfattning : The incidence and prevalence of diabetic nephropathy are increasing continuously, mainly due to the increase in type-2 diabetes. In contrast, the risk of diabetic nephropathy for the individual patient has decreased considerably in recent decades due to improved glycemic control, successful treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia and the use of renin angiotensin system inhibitors, which have protective effects beyond those on blood pressure. 5. Long-term outcome of renal transplantation in childhood
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the long-term results of renal transplantation in children at Huddinge University Hospital, with special reference to outcome. We therefore evaluated the course of events in children (age 0.1-16 years) transplanted between December 1981 and December 1991 during a 10-20-year period until 2001. LÄS MER
