6. Tidally generated internal waves
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the internal tide in the deep ocean, which is generated by the barotropic tide flowing over the bottom topography. The energy flux from the barotropic tide to the internal-wave field at the bottom is calculated using a method based on linear-wave theory and the traditional WKB approximation valid for a slowing varying vertical stratification. 7. Diversity, dynamics and deficits : the role of social networks for the health of aging populations in Indonesia
Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis takes as a predicate that humans are social animals and as such, that their social networks and health are intrinsically connected. A guiding heuristic of this thesis was the Berkman model which conceptualizes how social networks impact health. LÄS MER
8. Drift Waves in General Toroidal Equilibria
Sammanfattning : One of the main concerns in fusion research is to understand the anomalously high transport in magnetically confined plasmas. In recent years, substantial progress in the understanding of transport in terms of drift waves in fusion plasmas has been achieved. LÄS MER
9. Ships, clouds, and waves : understanding ecosystems in traditional industries
Sammanfattning : This dissertation builds on a jointly phenomenological and theoretical approach to investigate how traditional industries face challenges related to ecosystem innovation. Phenomenologically, it investigates how innovation within the shipbuilding industry affects the activities performed by firms that have traditionally filled the role of suppliers to shipyards. 10. On some Nonlinear Aspects of Wave Motion
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this thesis we consider the governing equations for capillary water waves given by the Euler equations with a free surface under the influence of surface tension over a flat bottom. We look for two-dimensional steady periodic waves. The problem is first transformed to a nonlinear elliptic equation in a rectangle. LÄS MER
