  1. 1. Global-Scale Modelling of the Land-Surface Water Balance : Development and Analysis of WASMOD-M

    Författare :Elin Widén-Nilsson; Sven Halldin; Chong-yu Xu; Lars-Christer Lundin; Jens Christian Refsgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Hydrology; Global; Water balance; Runoff; Regionalisation; Model uncertainty; Multi-objective; Parameter; Evaluation criteria; Routing; Climate change; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Water is essential for all life on earth. Global population increase and climate change are projected to increase the water stress, which already today is very high in many areas of the world. The differences between the largest and smallest global runoff estimates exceed the highest continental runoff estimates. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Governing Global Migration

    Författare :Sara Kalm; Statsvetenskapliga institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; migration management; migration policy; Foucault; governmentality; global governmentality; migration politics; migration;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores the global regulative function of migration politics. Its main aim is to rethink migration politics through an engagement with the Foucauldian governmentality perspective, which focuses on the relation between government and thought. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cyanobacterial Hydrogen Metabolism : Regulation and Maturation of Hydrogenases

    Författare :Ellenor Devine; Peter Lindblad; Karin Stensjö; Laurent Cournac; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In times with elevated CO2 levels and global warming there is a need of finding alternatives to carbon based energy carriers. One such environmental friendly solution could be H2 produced by living organisms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ecohydrologic impacts of dams : A global assessment

    Författare :Catherine Reidy Liermann; Christer Nilsson; Angela Arthington; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dam; reservoir; river regulation; flow alteration; fragmentation; freshwater biodiversity; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation aims to improve our understanding of how dams and reservoirs impact freshwater systems worldwide. The following questions were addressed specifically: 1) what are the spatial patterns and magnitudes of flow regulation and channel fragmentation by dams globally; 2) how are dam impacts distributed biogeographically, and which are the biogeographic regions and taxa most threatened by dam impacts; and 3) how can climate change and dams be expected to interact in basins, and what management actions would mitigate adverse interactions? Results show that the majority of the world’s large river systems are fragmented and have their flow altered by dams. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Cyanobacterial Uptake Hydrogenase : Regulation, Maturation and Function

    Författare :Marie Holmqvist; Peter Lindblad; Karin Stensjö; Kornél Kovács; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biohydrogen; CalA; Cyanobacteria; Hydrogenase; Maturation; Nostoc punctiforme ATCC 29133; Nostoc sp. PCC 7120; Transcriptional regulation; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Chemistry with specialization in Microbial Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot mikrobiell kemi;

    Sammanfattning : With accellerating global warming and pollution problems a change of energy regime is necessary. Solar energy offers a clean and unlimited energy source of enormous potential. Due to it’s intermittenet nature solar energy must be stored - ideally in the chemical bond of a carrier molecule. LÄS MER
