    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant and also the most common form of brain tumour in humans. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate morphological and diagnostics features in human GBM that may be of importance for prognosis and treatment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Novel treatments of glioblastoma in experimental models

    Författare :Karolina Förnvik; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Experimental glioma models; Glioblastoma; Complement system; C1 esterase inhibitor; ITPP; CRP; Glioma cells;

    Sammanfattning : One of the major problems with malignant brain tumours, such as glioblastoma multiforme, is that despite being able to remove the major bulk of the tumour through surgery and treating the patients with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we know that tumour cells have already spread throughout the brain. Furthermore, we now know that the glioblastoma cells effectively suppress the patients’ own anti-tumour response. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Författare :Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence. 4. 4. Epigenetics of paediatric glioma stem cells; focusing on exosomes, miRNAs and DNA methylation

    Författare :Ágota Tüzesi; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epigenetics; microRNA; DNA methylation; exosomes; glioblastoma; paediatric; glioma stem cells; neural stem cells; TMZ response;

    Sammanfattning : Tumours in the central nervous system are accountable for the majority of cancer-related deaths in children. Glioblastoma multiforme, one of the deadliest of the central nervous system tumours, is partly driven by glioma stem cells. The generation and maintenance of these cells is orchestrated by complex genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gene expression studies in human astrocytoma, with emphasis on oncostatin M induced effects

    Författare :Annika Krona; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :Brain tumors; astrocytoma; glioblastoma multiforme; oncostatin M OSM ; STAT; microarray;

    Sammanfattning : Brain tumors comprise about one percent of all cancers and astrocytoma is the most common primary brain malignancy. According to the World Health Organization system, the astrocytomas are divided into four grades according to degree of malignancy. Grade I, pilocytic astrocytoma (PA), is the least malignant form and most often affects children. LÄS MER
