  1. 11. Neuron-glial Interaction in the Developing Peripheral Nervous System

    Författare :Mikael Corell; Åsa Fex Svenningsen; Klas Kullander; Helgi Schöith; Heape Anthony; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Schwann cell; nonmyelinating Schwann cell; myelinating Schwann cell; development; proliferation; differentiation; myelin; neural stem cell; central nervous system; peripheral nervous system; enteric nervous system; N-cadherin; GABA; GAD; GABA B receptor; baclofen; CGP55485; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The nervous system, including the brain, is the most sophisticated organ in the mammalian body. In such a complex network, neuron-glial interaction is essential and controls most developmental processes, such as stem cell fate determination, migration, differentiation, synapse formation, ensheathment and myelination. 2. 12. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Författare :Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence. 3. 13. Investigating Amyloid β toxicity in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Maria Jonson; Per Hammarström; Stefan Thor; Christopher M Dobson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis Drosophila melanogaster (the fruit fly) has been used as a model organism to study the aggregation and toxic properties of the human amyloid β (Aβ) peptide involved in the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is one of many misfolding diseases where the important event of a protein to adopt its’ specific three-dimensional structure has failed, leading to aggregation and formation of characteristic amyloid fibrils. 4. 14. Lysosomal network proteins as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in neurodegenerative disease

    Författare :Andrea Boman; Katarina Kågedal; Samuel Svensson; Alan Sabirsh; Per Svenningsson; Oskar Hansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cerebrospinal fluid CSF ; biomarkers; therapeutic targets; neurodegeneration; Alzheimer’s disease AD ; Parkinson’s disease PD ; Corticobasal degeneration CBD ; Progressive supraneuclear palsy PSP ; Lysosomes; Endosomes; Autophagy; LAMP-2; Lysozyme;

    Sammanfattning : The pre-symptomatic stage of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) occurs several decades before the clinical onset. Changes in the lysosomal network, i.e. the autophagosomal, endosomal and lysosomal vesicular system, are among the first alterations observed. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus

    Författare :Elisabet Berglöf; Ingrid Strömberg; Stephen B. Dunnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; ventral mesencephalon; nerve fiber formation; glia; locus coeruleus; grafting; antioxidant-enriched diet; Histology; Histologi;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. LÄS MER
