  1. 1. Constipation : symptoms and findings in relation to structural and functional abnormalities

    Författare :Abdulhakim Glia; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :constipation; defecation; electromyography; gastrointestinal motility; immunchistochernistry; intestinal pseudo-obstruction; physiopathology; quality of life; transit time;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to increase the knowledge about functional constipation with special reference to symptoms analysis, laboratory investigations and histopathology findings. 155 consecutive patients with intractable constipation underwent anorectal manometry, electromyography (EMG), balloon expulsion test, colonic transit time, and defecography. 2. 2. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus

    Författare :Elisabet Berglöf; Ingrid Strömberg; Stephen B. Dunnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; ventral mesencephalon; nerve fiber formation; glia; locus coeruleus; grafting; antioxidant-enriched diet; Histology; Histologi;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Alzheimer Aβ peptides induce dysregulation of C/EBP and NF-кB in glial cells

    Författare :Malin Samuelsson; Kerstin Iverfeldt; Piet Eikelenboom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; amyloid-β; astrocytes; C EBP; glia; microglia; neuroinflammation; NF-кB; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is believed to contribute to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). AD in turn is believed to be a consequence of accumulated amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, that subsequently form senile plaques, due to imbalance between production and clearance of Aβ. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Alpha-Synuclein Oligomers : Cellular Mechanisms and Aspects of Antibody Treatment

    Författare :Gabriel Gustafsson; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Anna Erlandsson; Tiago F Outeiro; Marina Romero-Ramos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s Disease; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Oligomers; Monoclonal Antibody; Glia; Astrocyte; Immunofluorescence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : In Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), aggregated α-synuclein deposit inside cells within the brain. Smaller soluble α-synuclein aggregates, oligomers, are present both intra- and extracellularly. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Glial cell responses, complement and clusterin expression after lesions in central or peripheral nervous system

    Författare :Li Liu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Glia; Complement; Clusterin; Proliferation; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord injury; Rhizotomy; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present Thesis examines the expression and role of complement and the complement regulator clusterin after central or peripheral axon injury in relation to the responses of non-neuronal cells. Following peripheral sensory nerve injury, complement was expressed in the spinal cord and brain stem in association with reactive microglia, which also appeared to be a local source of complement.
