  1. 1. Glacier-Ocean Interactions in the Arctic : Contemporary calving and frontal melt from field observations, remote sensing, and numerical modelling

    Författare :Felicity Alice Holmes; Nina Kirchner; Benedict T. I. Reinardy; Riko Noormets; Jason Briner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glacier-ocean interactions; Arctic; Calving; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Globally, glaciers are losing mass as a result of the changing climate, with this mass loss having a considerable societal impact through rising sea levels. Glaciers which terminate in the oceans are particularly vulnerable to changing external conditions as a result of high sensitivity at their marine margins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dead-Ice Under Different Climate Conditions: Processes, Landforms, Sediments and Melt Rates in Iceland and Svalbard

    Författare :Anders Schomacker; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; glacier; dead-ice; surge; ice-cored; Little Ice Age; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; Svalbard; Iceland; Sedimentology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Sedimentologi; Physical geography; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; climatology;

    Sammanfattning : Modern dead-ice environments in the glacier forefields of Brúarjökull, Iceland and Holmströmbreen, Svalbard were investigated with focus on landform and sediment genesis, as well as quantification of melting. Field monitoring and studies of multi-temporal aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) provided data for the melting quantification. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Who is Marching for Pachamama? : An Intersectional Analysis of Environmental Struggles in Bolivia under the Government of Evo Morales

    Författare :Anna Kaijser; Anne Jerneck; Annica Kronsell; Andrew Canessa; LUCSUS; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; political ecology; environmental discourse; subject formation; feminist theory; multi-sited ethnography; scales; figurations; indigeneity; climate change; glacier retreat; TIPNIS; political ecology; environmental discourse; subject formation; feminist theory; multi-sited ethnography; scales; figurations; indigeneity; climate change; glacier retreat; TIPNIS;

    Sammanfattning : Evo Morales and the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) took office in Bolivia in 2006, riding on the wave of fierce popular protests against previous, neoliberal regimes. Morales was depicted as the country’s first indigenous president. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Petermann Glacier Ice Shelf in a warming world : Insights from 3-D numerical modelling of ice shelf-ocean interactions at Petermann Fjord, Northwest Greenland

    Författare :Abhay Prakash; Nina Kirchner; Qiong Zhang; Riko Noormets; Hans Burchard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Greenland; ice shelf-ocean interactions; numerical ocean modelling; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) is currently the largest contributor to global mean sea level rise, and contemporary mass loss rates are likely lower bounds for the rates to be observed in decades to come. At present, marine outlet glaciers along the northern GrIS margin, with an ice volume estimated at 400 cm mean global sea level rise equivalent, are still largely buttressed by ice shelves. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Past dynamics of a marine-terminating glacier in lower Borgarfjörður, west Iceland - Analyses of glaciotectonic sediments and landforms

    Författare :Thorbjorg Sigfusdottir; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glacier dynamics; marine-terminating glacier; glaciomarine processes; thrust-block moraines; glaciotectonics; micromorphology; Early Holocene; Late Weichselian; Iceland;

    Sammanfattning : Large and complete sections through glacial landforms formed in subaqueous environments are rare, impeding our knowledge of their internal composition and the processes responsible for their formation. Following the last deglaciation of the Icelandic Ice Sheet (IIS), a marine-terminating outlet glacier advanced out of the fjord of Borgarfjörður resulting in large-scale glaciotectonic deformation of glaciomarine sediments.
