  1. 1. Marine silicon cycle through the Cenozoic

    Författare :Guillaume Fontorbe; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Si isotopes; Paleogene; PETM; glacial-interglacial; ocean circulation;

    Sammanfattning : Silicon (Si) cycle is one of Earth's major biogeochemical cycles. Furthermore, the dissolved form of Si (DSi) is an essential nutrient for both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Northern Permafrost Region Soil Carbon Dynamics since the Last Glacial Maximum : a terrestrial component in the glacial to interglacial carbon cycle

    Författare :Amelie Lindgren; Gustaf Hugelius; Peter Kuhry; Fortunat Joos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil organic carbon; Permafrost; Peat; Loess; Vegetation; Biome reconstruction; Last Glacial Maximum; Deglaciation; Glacial-interglacial cycle; Carbon cycle; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : At the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), after ~100,000 years of relatively cold temperatures and progressively lower atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations, CO2 levels reached ~180 ppm, which is less than half of what we see today in a much warmer world (~400 ppm). Although much of this increase since the LGM is due to human-induced emissions, about 100 ppm of this increase can be attributed to natural variations seen over glacial to interglacial cycles. 3. 3. Model analysis of ocean carbon storage and transport across climate states

    Författare :Malin Ödalen; Jonas Nycander; Johan Nilsson; Kevin I. C. Oliver; Nathaelle Bouttes-Mauhourat; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oceanography; Climate; Climate model; Carbon cycle; Paleoclimate; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : The ocean carbon cycle plays a fundamental role in the Earth’s climate system, on decadal to multi-millennial timescales. Of the carbon held in the ocean, the atmosphere, and the terrestrial biosphere combined, more than 90% resides in the ocean. Carbon enters the surface ocean through air-sea gas exchange and from terrestrial sources. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Animal movement on short and long time scales and the effect on genetic diversity in cold-adapted species

    Författare :Vendela Kempe Lagerholm; Love Dalén; Anders Angerbjörn; Bensch Staffan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The genetic diversity in modern species is strongly affected by contemporary gene flow between populations, which in turn is governed by individual dispersal capacities and barriers in the landscape. However, current patterns of variation have also been shaped by movement over longer time-scales, such as the successive shifts in species distributions that have occurred during past climate changes. 5. 5. Sulfur in polar ice and snow : Interpretations of past atmosphere and climate through glacial archives

    Författare :Ulf Jonsell; Margareta Hansson; Mark Curran; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice cores; aerosols; sulfate; methanesulfonate; sulfur isotopes; climate; glacial cycles; Antarctica; Greenland; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Snow contains information on the atmosphere it is deposited from. This information is stored in polar ice sheets (Antarctica and Greenland), which are unique geochronological archives of past climate and atmospheric composition. On time scales from annual to glacial cycles, this thesis deals with the signals of sulfur compounds in these archives. LÄS MER
