21. Bad breath : prevalence, periodontal disease, microflora and inflammatory markers
Sammanfattning : Bad breath usually originates within the oral cavity and is believed to be associated with periodontal disease. The over all aim of the present thesis was to study periodontal conditions in subjects with bad breath as well as the prevalence of bad breath in subjects with periodontal disease. LÄS MER
22. Associations between oral biofilm, periodontal disease, and systemic health : with a focus on atherosclerosis and breast cancer
Sammanfattning : The general hypothesis of this series of studies was that oral infections, particularly periodontal disease, by triggering inflammatory reactions detrimentally affect systemic health where inflammations are known to play a role in the pathogenesis, namely cardiovascular disease and cancer. Consequently, the general aim was to study the association between oral biofilm and certain oral micro-organisms, periodontal disease, and selected inflammatory markers with a focus on atherosclerosis and breast cancer (BC). 23. Neutrophil recruitment in periodontal disease
Sammanfattning : Neutrophils are the first immune cells to arrive in infected or injured tissues, where they engulf microbes and clean up cell debris. Periodontitis is one of the typical symptoms of both neutropenia and defect neutrophil functionality, suggesting an important role for these cells in maintenance of periodontal health. LÄS MER
24. Rheumatoid arthritis as a modifier of periodontitis
Sammanfattning : Periodontitis is a chronic tissue-destructive condition in which the tooth-supporting collagen fibers of ligament and bone are broken down mainly by the host s overreactive immune inflammatory response. The relation between periodontitis and other chronic inflammatory destructive diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), has been dealt with in some studies because, in spite of their different etiologies, similar mechanisms of tissue destruction have been described in these conditions. 25. Associations between obesity, periodontal inflammation, subgingival microflora and salivary flow rate
Sammanfattning : Obesity is a large health problem and is associated with increased risk of diabetes type II, cardiovascular disease as well as implicated in a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders such as Crohn’s disease and subclinical bowel inflammation. Obesity is also associated with enhanced prevalence of chronic periodontitis in adults. LÄS MER
