  1. 1. Ontology as Conceptual Schema when Modelling Historical Maps for Database Storage

    Författare :Gustaf Svedjemo; Erland Jungert; Wollter Arnberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ontology; historical maps; database modelling; GIS; Geographical Information Systems; archaeology; history; ontologi; historiska kartor; databasmodellering; GIS; geografiska informationssystem; arkeologi; historia; Computer science; Datavetenskap; History subjects; Historieämnen;

    Sammanfattning : Sweden has an enormous treasure in its vast number of large-scale historical maps from a period of 400 years made for different purposes, that we call map series. The maps are also very time and regional dependent with respect to their concepts. A large scanning project by Lantmäteriverket will make most of these maps available as raster images. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Understanding Human Mobility with Emerging Data Sources: Validation, spatiotemporal patterns, and transport modal disparity

    Författare :Yuan Liao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; travel mode; data mining; travel time; mobility; social media data; gravity model; Twitter; geographical information systems;

    Sammanfattning : Human mobility refers to the geographic displacement of human beings, seen as individuals or groups, in space and time. The understanding of mobility has broad relevance, e.g., how fast epidemics spread globally. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Land-Use and Climate Effects of Bioenergy: Carbon balances of Swedish forest bioenergy systems – and – Geospatial biomass supply-and-demand matching for Europe

    Författare :Olivia Cintas Sanchez; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GIS; EU; bioenergy; Sweden; agriculture; residues; Forestry; climate change; GHG balances;

    Sammanfattning : In order to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, greenhouse gas emissions have to be drastically reduced. Bioenergy can play a role in climate change mitigation by substituting for energy from fossil fuels; however, biomass is a limited resource associated with emissions from land use and land-use change. 4. 4. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a tool for analysis and communications of multidimensional data

    Författare :Åke Sivertun; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Geographic Information Systems GIS ; Landscape Ecology; Artificial Drainage; Distributed Models; Environmental Change; Environmental Impact; Environmental Engineering; Landscape History; Drainage Technology; Historical Geography; Multidimensional and Multi-temporal Analysis; Hyperpixel; Colour Coding and Presentation of Multidimensional Data; Geografiska informationssystem;

    Sammanfattning : An integrating approach, including knowledge about whole systems of processes, is essential in order to reach both development and environmental protection goals. In this thesis Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are suggested as a tool to realise such integrated models. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Geographical Information Technologies – Decision Support for Road Maintenance in Uganda

    Författare :Lydia Mazzi Kayondo-Ndandiko; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Data Model; Dynamic Segmentation; Geographical Information Technologies GITs ; Geographical Information Systems for Transportation GIS-T ; Linear referencing; Methodological Framework; Research and Development; Road maintenance; Road Infrastructure Maintenance RIM ; Science Technology and Innovation; Spatial Data Infrastructure; Uganda;

    Sammanfattning : This study set out to develop a framework within which the use of Geographical Information Technologies (GITs) can be enhanced in Road Infrastructure Maintenance (RIM) in Uganda. Specifically it was guided by 3 objectives; 1. To assess the gaps in the use of GITs for RIM in Uganda and the limitations to accessing these technologies, 2. LÄS MER
