1. Guardians of the genome : Connecting chromatin structure and genome integrity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : Branched DNA structures arise during recombination and during other DNA repair processes such as repair of stalled replication forks. One branched structure, the Holliday Junction (HJ), is a four-way junction that can connect sister chromatids or homologous chromosomes. We show a physical interaction between the HJ-cleaving enzyme Yen1 and Uls1. LÄS MER
2. Borrelia channel-forming proteins : structure and function
Sammanfattning : Borrelia is a Gram-negative, corkscrew-shaped bacterium transmitted by infected ticks or lice. Borreliae are subdivided into pathogens of two diseases: Lyme disease, caused mainly by B. burgdorferi, B. afzelii and B. LÄS MER
3. Rates and patterns of genome evolution in Lepidoptera
Sammanfattning : The evolutionary consequences of genome restructuring and chromosomal rearrangements can be significant, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. This thesis explores the relationships between genome restructuring, recombination, and maintenance of genetic diversity in different butterfly species. LÄS MER
4. Classification, Evolution, Pharmacology and Structure of G protein-coupled Receptors
Sammanfattning : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) are integral membrane proteins with seven α-helices that translate a remarkable diversity of signals into cellular responses. The superfamily of GPCRs is among the largest and most diverse protein families in vertebrates. LÄS MER
5. Phylogeny and topological incongruence in the Rubioideae (Rubiaceae)
Sammanfattning : The work with this thesis has focused on evolutionary relationships in the Rubioideae, the most species-rich subfamily of the large and diverse coffee family (Rubiaceae). Despite considerable efforts during the last decades, uncertainty regarding several relationships in this group has remained, either as a result of unconvincing statistic support, incongruent results, or insufficient taxon sampling.
