21. Antimicrobial potential of Geobacillus sp. ZGt-1 isolated from Zara hot spring in Jordan : Piecing the puzzle of the antagonistic activity of a novel bacterial strain
Sammanfattning : The problem of antibiotic resistance is rising continuously, creating a warning signal that calls for finding alternatives. Not only that, but there is also a rising demand for natural food preservatives. The pharmaceutical and food industry sectors are working on fulfilling these needs. This thesis is exploring possible solutions to these issues. LÄS MER
22. Halomonas species as a source of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate). Preparation of hydrophilic macroporous polymer scaffolds
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents studies on moderately halophilic bacteria belonging to the family Halomonadaceae that accumulate polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) in high amounts when grown under conditions of nitrogen limitation. PHB is the simplest homopolymer belonging to the class of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), the biopolyesters that can biodegraded in the environment to carbon dioxide and water and are hence attractive substitutes for fossil-derived plastics. 24. From Single Gene to Whole Genome Studies of Human Transcription Regulation
Sammanfattning : Transcriptional regulation largely determines which proteins and the protein levels that are found in a cell, and this is crucial in development, differentiation and responses to environmental stimuli. The major effectors of transcriptional regulation are a group of proteins known as transcription factors, which importance is supported by their frequent involvement in mendelian and complex diseases. 25. Inter and Intra-Assemblage Characterizations of Giardia intestinalis: from clinic to genome
Sammanfattning : The protozoan parasite Giardia intestinalis (syn. G. lamblia, G. duodenalis) is one of the most common causes of diarrheal disease throughout the world, where an estimated 500 million people are infected annually. LÄS MER
