1. Studies of Genome Diversity in Bartonella Populations : A journey through cats, mice, men and lice
Sammanfattning : Bacteria of the genus Bartonella inhabit the red blood cells of many mammals, including humans, and are transmitted by blood-sucking arthropod vectors. Different species of Bartonella are associated with different mammalian host species, to which they have adapted and normally do not cause any symptoms. LÄS MER
2. Dynamics of the Bacterial Genome : Rates and Mechanisms of Mutation
Sammanfattning : Bacterial chromosomes are highly dynamic, continuously changing with respect to gene content and size via a number of processes, including deletions that result in gene loss. How deletions form and at what rates has been the focus of this thesis. In paper II we investigated how chromosomal location affects chromosomal deletion rates in S. LÄS MER
3. Phylogeny and topological incongruence in the Rubioideae (Rubiaceae)
Sammanfattning : The work with this thesis has focused on evolutionary relationships in the Rubioideae, the most species-rich subfamily of the large and diverse coffee family (Rubiaceae). Despite considerable efforts during the last decades, uncertainty regarding several relationships in this group has remained, either as a result of unconvincing statistic support, incongruent results, or insufficient taxon sampling. 4. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach
Sammanfattning : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens. 5. Technologies for Single Cell Genome Analysis
Sammanfattning : During the last decade high throughput DNA sequencing of single cells has evolved from an idea to one of the most high profile fields of research. Much of this development has been possible due to the dramatic reduction in costs for massively parallel sequencing. LÄS MER
