  1. 1. Genome Divergence in Progress - a population genetic analysis of the allopolyploid Arabidopsis suecica and its maternal parent A. thaliana

    Författare :Mattias Jakobsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; sequence polymorphism; microsatellites; population structure; polyploidy; single origin; Arabidopsis thaliana; Arabidopsis suecica; genome evolution; evolutionary history; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik;

    Sammanfattning : The evolutionary history of the allotetraploid Arabidopsis suecica and its maternal parent Arabidopsis thaliana is analyzed in the thesis in terms of genetic variation in the natural populations of the two species. The earliest phase of the speciation event in which the genomes of A. thaliana and A. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Basal Vertebrate Divergences from a Molecular Perspective

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Rasmussen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondrial genomes; Agnatha; Chondrichthyes; vertebrates; evolution; systematics; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Fishes (Superclass Pisces) constitute the most numerous and morphologically diverse vertebrate group, yet only a small fraction of all molecular evolutionary studies concern piscine evolution. This thesis aims to investigate the vertebrate tree, through the analysis of mitochondrial (mt) DNA sequences. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

    Författare :Anna Dahlen; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; mesenchymal tumor; pericytoma; Genetics; chondroma; lipoma;

    Sammanfattning : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes. 4. 4. On Speciation in Birds – Genomic Signatures across Space and Time

    Författare :Martin Stervander; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colonization; islands; isolation; introgressive hybridization; sympatry; natural selection; bill morphology; coalescence-based analyses; DNA sequencing; birds; divergence; Speciation;

    Sammanfattning : The process of speciation is a cornerstone in evolutionary biology. In Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, he described how he imagined that a new species would evolve to fill an empty niche. This focus on ecology shifted with Mayr towards the importance of isolation, and for many decades the geographic modes of speciation were debated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization of somatic mutations in nonneoplastic cells

    Författare :Karin Broberg; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; osteoarthritis; nonneoplastic; HMGIC; trisomy 7; FISH; Molecular genetics; cytogenetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic alterations, of which many are visible on the chromosome level, are believed to be necessary for tumorigenesis, and most tumors display characteristic patterns of recurrent structural and numerical aberrations. However, two of the most frequently occurring chromosome mutations in malignant and benign solid tumors, i.e. LÄS MER
