1. Detecting Sex and Selection in Ancient Cattle Remains Using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms
Sammanfattning : All contemporary taurine cattle originated some 10,000 years ago when their wild ancestor, the aurochs, was domesticated in the Near East. Although the aurochs was widespread also in Europe, there is no evidence for a local domestication. The aurochs has been extinct since 1627 and therefore little is known about its biology. LÄS MER
2. Genome Divergence in Progress - a population genetic analysis of the allopolyploid Arabidopsis suecica and its maternal parent A. thaliana
Sammanfattning : The evolutionary history of the allotetraploid Arabidopsis suecica and its maternal parent Arabidopsis thaliana is analyzed in the thesis in terms of genetic variation in the natural populations of the two species. The earliest phase of the speciation event in which the genomes of A. thaliana and A. LÄS MER
3. Mended by masticates : A study of archaeogenetic proxies of migration, settlement and health in North Eurasian Mesolithic
Sammanfattning : A joint archaeogenetic perspective integrates diverse lines of evidence from archaeology and paleogenetics to advance our understanding of human prehistory. In this thesis I contribute to the corpus of archaeogenetic data by producing and analysing ancient genomic data from osseous and masticated material. LÄS MER
4. Following the herd : Population genetics of European sheep in time and space
Sammanfattning : Sheep, which were domesticated in the Fertile Crescent about 10,000-12,000 years ago, have been a key resource for human populations ever since. We, however, know little about how they were domesticated, and what happened to them after their initial expansion from their domestication area into all corners of Eurasia and later Africa and the Americas. 5. Genetik i fiktion
Sammanfattning : This licentiate’s thesis is concerned with how genetics is depicted and used in fictional stories. From a perspective that combines science and technology studies with cultural studies, it analyses narratives that deal with, or contain images of, genetics and gene technology. LÄS MER
