  1. 11. Psychological and Behavioral Aspects of Receiving Genetic Counseling for Hereditary Cancer

    Författare :Afsaneh Hayat Roshanai; Karin Nordin; Richard Rosenquist; Yvonne Brandberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hereditary cancer; genetic counseling; psychological distress; adherence; genetic knowledge; risk perception; sharing genetic information; at-risk relatives’ experiences; informational needs; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Public health science; Folkhälsovetenskap; Psychology; Psykologi; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to investigate psychological and behavioral effects of receiving cancer genetic counseling for breast, ovarian and colorectal cancer and/or with a family history of these cancer types and to determine whether counselees’ informational needs were met. Study I was performed 3-7 years post-counseling. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Population Fragmentation and Genetic Variation in Grouse

    Författare :Jobs Karl Larsson; Jacob Höglund; Stuart B. Piertney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Bonasa sewerzowi; bottleneck; genetic drift; genetic variation; inbreeding; isolation; microsatellites; population structure; Tetrao tetrix; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the genetic variation of two grouse species, the Chinese grouse (Bonasa sewersowi) and the Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) was examined with neutral genetic markers: microsatellites. Habitat fragmentation and isolation leads to structuring among and loss of genetic variation within populations. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Genetic susceptibility to cervical and gastric cancer

    Författare :Patrik Magnusson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cervical cancer; gastric cancer; genetic susceptibility; familiality; heritability; HPV; Helicobacter pylori; genetic association; HLA; P53; loss of heterozygosity; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical and gastric cancer both to a large extent depend on infectious agents. Cervical infection with human papilloma virus increases the risk for cervical cancer substantially, and infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori increases the risk for gastric cancer. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Genetic Risk Factors for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : From Candidate Genes to Functional Variants

    Författare :Anna-Karin Abelson; Marta Alarcón-Riquelme; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; SLE; association study; complex disease; genetic; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to identify genetic variants that increase the susceptibility for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease caused by a complex interplay between various genetic and environmental factors. Five different candidate genes were selected through different strategies, and were analysed for association with SLE in an attempt to distinguish some of the underlying mechanisms of this disease. 5. 15. Genetic studies of diabetes in northern Sweden

    Författare :Sofia Mayans; Dan Holmberg; Mats Eliasson; Outi Vaarala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; families; genetic; association; SNP; linkage; TCF7L2; CTLA-4; Calpain-10; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus represents a group of metabolic disorders caused by both environmental and genetic factors. The two most common forms of diabetes are type 2 diabetes (T2D) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). T2D is associated with obesity and the disease is caused by insulin resistance and pancreatic b-cell dysfunction. LÄS MER
