  1. 1. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes : The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    Författare :Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic structure of natural populations : aspects of the association between genetical and morphological variability patterns

    Författare :Ulf Lagercrantz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Most species comprise a number of more or less reproductively isolated subpopulations. These subpopulations may exhibit striking differences in morphology and ecology, and on the basis of those differences they are often given the rank of subspecies, race, stock, variety, etc. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic analysis of murine malaria

    Författare :Susana Campino; Dan Holmberg; Nils Lycke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Malaria; genetic analysis; Plasmodium; wild derived inbred strains; loci; cerebral malaria; hyperparasitaemia.; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; genetik; Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria, an infectious disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, is one of the major world-scale health problems. Despite the efforts aimed at finding an effective way to control the disease, the success has been thwarted by the emergence of parasite drug resistance and mosquito resistance to insecticides. 4. 4. Genetic variability commonly affecting neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation

    Författare :Mikael Ström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Loss of nerve cells and axons is a common feature of common complex neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. However, also Multiple Sclerosis (MS), primarily an autoimmune disorder, has a prominent neurodegenerative component. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic variability and cadmium metabolism and toxicity

    Författare :Gerda Rentschler; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cadmium; polymorphism; TFRC; SLC39A8; SLC39A14; MT1A;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: Cadmium (Cd) is ubiquitous in the environment. Human exposure in non-smokers occurs mainly via intake of healthy food like vegetables, cereals, and shellfish. Adverse health effects on kidney and bone at low-level environmental Cd exposure are well-documented in adults. LÄS MER
