  1. 6. Genetic Variations in the NLRP3 Inflammasome : Susceptibility Factor for Chronic Inflammation

    Författare :Deepti Verma; Peter Söderkvist; Särndahl Särndahl; Hal Hoffman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : NLRP3 has been recognized as one of the key components of innate immunity. Upon activation, NLRP3 forms a multiprotein complex called as the ‘inflammasome’ which leads to the activation of pro-inflammatory caspase-1 which subsequently results in the formation of Interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18. 2. 7. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies

    Författare :Yasir Ruhayel; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytoplasmic and nuclear; Receptors; Prostatic neoplasms; genetic; Polymorphism; male; Infertility; Hypogonadism; Genetic association studies; Case–control studies; Androgens;

    Sammanfattning : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively. 3. 8. Genetic Risk Factors for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : From Candidate Genes to Functional Variants

    Författare :Anna-Karin Abelson; Marta Alarcón-Riquelme; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; SLE; association study; complex disease; genetic; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to identify genetic variants that increase the susceptibility for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease caused by a complex interplay between various genetic and environmental factors. Five different candidate genes were selected through different strategies, and were analysed for association with SLE in an attempt to distinguish some of the underlying mechanisms of this disease. 4. 9. Genetic studies of diabetes in northern Sweden

    Författare :Sofia Mayans; Dan Holmberg; Mats Eliasson; Outi Vaarala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; families; genetic; association; SNP; linkage; TCF7L2; CTLA-4; Calpain-10; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus represents a group of metabolic disorders caused by both environmental and genetic factors. The two most common forms of diabetes are type 2 diabetes (T2D) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). T2D is associated with obesity and the disease is caused by insulin resistance and pancreatic b-cell dysfunction. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The genetics of systemic lupus erythematosus : Mapping of susceptibility loci for human SLE

    Författare :Anna-Karin B. Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Systemic lupus erythematosus; complex diseases; genetic susceptibility; linkage analysis; genome scan; candidate gene; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic autoimmune disease affecting organs such as skin, jointsand kidneys. Characteristic for the disease is increased production of autoantibodies, in particular against dsDNA. Previous studies of SLE in mouse models and in humans indicate polygenic inheritance and genetic heterogeneity. LÄS MER
